2019 Georgia Under The Radar Prospects
Here are some 2019 prospects in Georgia who you should watch out for this winter.
Messiah Thompson (North Atlanta)-
After averaging nearly 12 PPG as a freshman at North Atlanta, Thompson (pictured above) transferred to Pebblebrook as a sophomore. Now, Thompson is back at North Atlanta where he will be the main guy and looks poised to have a big junior season. He had a great June for the Warriors, creating headaches for defenses with his quickness, ball-handling, and scoring ability. Thompson may be a small point guard but he is tough and very competitive. North Atlanta’s offense struggled mightily last year; Thompson will provide a significant boost here by creating for himself and others.
Brady Spence (Alexander)-
Spence, a 6’8” forward, made great strides on the travel circuit this summer. Playing 17U with a solid Georgia Bulls gave him a challenge, but proved to be helpful for his development. By the end of July, Spence was an important piece for the Bulls team, contributing in a variety of ways. He is an excellent shot-blocker, rebounds and runs the floor well, and has continued to develop offensively. Spence will have an opportunity to really step up this year for an Alexander team who lost some key seniors and transfer Grant Howard.
Jaxon Etter (Etowah)- Etter was a huge part of Etowah’s Sweet 16 run in 2016-17, but he has still gone somewhat overlooked in recent months. Etter does many different things that coaches love and helps teams win. He is a physical wing who has a mature frame that allows him to be an effective scorer and rebounder inside. He has continued to improve as a perimeter shooter as well, putting the defense at his mercy. Etter gives great effort and toughness to his team every game. All of these qualities will help Etowah in trying to capture another region championship.
Terrell Burden (Campbell)-
Having been at McEachern, Burden did not have much opportunity to showcase his abilities during his first two seasons. Burden has now transferred to Campbell and is hungry to prove himself this year. He had a very good summer with Vanguard Elite, holding his own against numerous prospects who are well-known in the state. Burden may be undersized but he is fearless, extremely athletic, and can get anywhere on the court whenever he wants. His combination of penetration ability and an improved outside shot should allow him to have a productive junior season.
Luke Chism (Dawson Christian)-
Being out in Dawsonville, it is easy for a player like Chism to fly under the radar. However, I have been fond of Chism for a while now and he is worthy of recognition. Standing at nearly 6’5”, Chism has great size for a PG and understands how to use it to his advantage. He goes inside on smaller defenders and also sees over the defense on the perimeter. This allows him to score and whip accurate passes to open teammates with ease. Chism has progressed nicely over the last few months and looks to ready lead DCA this winter.
