Way Too Early Rankings: 2A
The realignment has largely left 2A open for the taking. However, Layton Christian and Beaver look to be the two favorites early on. These two teams return the most talent and Layton Christian has a history of being able to rebuild. With that said, a new season means that players will take on new roles. This should be a fun year to watch 2A basketball. Below are our Way Too Early 2A Rankings
2A Rankings
1. Layton Christian
LCA always has a lot of talent. Further, they have a legendary coach in Coach Porter. However, they graduated a lot of skilled prospects this past season. Thus, it is hard to start them at #1 as it will take time to see how guys playing new roles will adjust. With that said, LCA returns talented SG/SF Sano Gasana. His length makes him a game changer on the wing. He can play on the perimeter and on the block which will enable him to take advantage of mismatches. Always worth noting, LCA typically has a lot of athleticism. They do a great job of causing havoc which results in a lot of transition opportunities. This group will look to keep their crown this season.
2. Beaver
Beaver returns two of the top guards in this classification in Davis Heslington and Porter Hollingshead. Heslington is one of the top shooters in the state as he averaged almost 3 three pointers per game. Further, he is capable of shooting off of the bounce and in catch and shoot situations. Further, Hollingshead has a great feel for the game and does a nice job of putting teammates in a position where they can be successful. His ability to manage the game and assist in creating shots for Heslington will be monumental to Beaver having a big year. I would not be surprised to see this team hoisting the championship trophy at seasons end.
3. North Summit
North Summit will return Junior Hayden Blonquist. Blonquist was solid on the glass and finished well around the rim. He will play an even bigger role this next season if North Summit is going to earn this #5 ranking. In addition to Blonquist, the team brings back Stockton Richins. The Richins family has a rich tradition in the area and Richins is the most likely player to step up for the group due to the many departures. North Summit plays a physical style of basketball and does not back down. Even though they will have a lot of players with new roles, this group should compete at a high level.
