Small Town Spotlight: 2018 Oklahoma Prospect Rankings
With the release of the Oklahoma 2018 Prospect Rankings, you will notice that this year’s class has a plethora of talent from rural areas.
Oklahoma always has great players come out of the city but it is always interesting to see which small town kids rise up and represent their town on a state level due to their stellar play.
Here are a few of the Small Town Spotlights:
#16. Camden Patterson Ringwood
Patterson is the most skilled big man in the 2018 class. At 6’11, Patterson has pro size and complements that with soft hands and a great feel for the offense.
Patterson is the perfect example of the evolution of the center position due to his ability to step out and hit shots and still be a threat down low on the block. He has a bright future ahead of him.
#20 Dalton Vinson Hennessy
Vinson is automatic on the block when he gets touches. At a legit 6’7, Vinson just finds an angle to score.
Vinson also is one of the better rebounders in the state. In the painted area with a lot of traffic, Vinson seems to always come out of the scrum with the ball.
#24 Grayson Nix Red Oak
Nix is like a bull in a China shop when he darts toward the basket. With his powerful frame, Nix somehow finds a way to get downhill and get to the rim.
Nix is a matchup nightmare whenever he posts up against an opposing guard. “Barbecue chicken” as Shaq would say.
#26 Riley Island Calumet
Calumet has a great tradition of turning out shooters and Island is up next. Island can fill it up behind the arc. He is also crafty enough to get in the paint and make plays.
Island has a good feel for the game and finds ways to get open and score.
#28 Trent Smith Latta
Smith really showed out this summer and put himself on the map around the state. Latta has a great tradition as well and Smith may be one of their most talented players to come out.
At 6’4, Smith is a nightmare to guard off the dribble. He is a great looking prospect with upside as a wing.
#33 Carson Calavan Fort Gibson
Calavan has a great feel for the point guard position and he is also a lethal shooter. He plays with a craftiness that catches his opponents off guard at times.
Calavan led a loaded Tulsa Hawks team this summer as the primary ball handler and distributor. He seems to get better every year.
#37 Layton Hartloff Claremore
Hartloff put himself on the map with a productive State tournament and with quality summer performances.
Hartloff is a mismatch at the high school level because of his 6’7 frame and his mobility. He can put the ball on the floor like a guard and cause issues for your defense.
#48 Cole Jones Pond Creek-Hunter
Jones may be the best shooter in Oklahoma. Jones had a great summer showing off his sharpshooting ability.
College coaches will be making their way out to PCH to catch Jones but on a shooting display.
