Ron Massey Fall Classic: Class of 2018 overview
LAKEWOOD, Ca. – The fourth Ron Massey Memorial Fall Hoops Classic, played Sept. 9&10 at Artesia High, offered up a healthy heaping of the best of the Southern California Class of 2018.
Guards Spencer Freedman (Mater Dei/Harvard), David Singleton (Bishop Montgomery/UCLA), D.J. McDonald (Alemany/UC Riverside) and post Josh Phillips (Huntington Beach Edison/University of Portland) have already committed to the programs that they play to sign National Letters of Intent with in November.
It would come as no surprise if as many as 10 to 12 over the other seniors that stood out at the event sign LOIs with NCAA Division I programs in November.
Some of those include forward Michael Wang (the Most Outstanding Player of the Elite 8 bracket portion of the event after leading Mater Dei to the championship, 55-53, over Bishop Montgomery) and his teammate, guard Harrison Butler (pictured); center Fred Odhiambo of Alemany; forward Fletcher Tynen of Bishop Montgomery; forwards Cyrus Johnson and Tevian Jones of Culver City; guards Bryce Hamilton and Darius Brown II of Pasadena; guard Cameron Shelton of Damien; forward Jordan Guest of Santa Margarita; forward Hunter Woods of Muir; guards Tony Goodwin II and Chris Austin of Maranatha
Among the other senior standouts last weekend were forward Reagan Lundeen of Mater Dei; forward Orlando Robinson of Cathedral; guard Gary Harris of L.A. Price; guard Alex Garcia of Rolling Hills Prep; point guard Daniel Zahabian of Beverly Hills; swingman Dirk Helaire of Damien; and guard Julian Lopez of Los Altos.
Along with Wang, Butler, Freedman, Singleton, Brown, Johnson and Tynen were the seniors who were among my “all-Elite 8” selections.
