Recruiting Report: Mason Robbins (2020)
Edmond North’s, Mason Robbins, is a talented prospect. Robbins is a tough 6’9” center in the 2020 class. He had a monster showing at the Prep Hoops Top 250 EXPO. Prep Hoops used the EXPO to catch up with Robbins and get to know him a little better.
He will look to contribute to the Huskies as they hope to return to the state championship once again, although they do not have as much size as last year’s team. Robbins played grassroots ball with Game Changer Hoops.
Robbins is rated a top 25 recruit in the 2020 class of Oklahoma. Robbins currently does not hold any offers, but he is very interested in Army West Point. Things are still very early in his recruitment.
Robbins is a good rebounder because of his fundamentals. Regardless of his size advantage, he always looks to box out and keep the ball high so his opponents cannot knock it loose. He uses his size and rebounding skills to get second-chance points.
Before this upcoming season, Robbins wants to work on his ball-handling skills and mid-range shot. He also wants to work on his agility and flexibility to improve his overall game.
Last season, Robbins’ high school team, Edmond North, won the Oklahoma Class 6A championship. Last season’s state title conquest was one that was unique to him. He was injured early and did not play as big of a role as he would have liked, but had the great opportunity to participate as a freshman on the state championship team.
“It was special to me,” said Robbins. “I came back from an injury and got to play a part in the championship run.”
Robbins has done well in school so far. He currently holds a 4.0 GPA and has yet to take the ACT. Robbins will work to keep his grades as he wants to become a mechanical engineer.
“I am looking for a challenge in college,” said Robbins. “I want to do this so that I can make the rest of my life easier after I graduate.”
One of the biggest potential problems with recruits is their focus, but Robbins seems to be focused on school as well as athletics.
“I just want to become the best athlete I can be,” said Robbins. “I want to get better in every aspect of the game and continue to keep my grades up.
Robbins is a solid center. His recruitment should start to pick up as he gets into his later years in high school. Prep Hoops projects Robbins to the NCAA Division II level.
