Recruiting Report: Justin Curtis (2018)
There aren’t too many prospects in Ohio’s 2018 class who are as pure of a scoring talent as 6’4” Columbus East guard Justin Curtis (2018). From all three levels, Curtis gets buckets. He shows creativity as a finisher, runs the floor in transition, and shoots with range.
“I can score easy because I can shoot it and I can also attack. And when I do attack, I can find open teammates,” Curtis said. He also told us that most of his points come in the mid-range
After leading the Columbus City League in scoring as a junior with 20 points per game, what else is there to prove next season?
“I want to get a ring. I want to win some kind of championship,” Curtis said.
Additionally, he wants to improve as a catch-and-shoot threat.
On top of that, Curtis will try to identify a home for the next four years. At the moment, Curtis is mainly talking to a couple of Division II programs.
“I’m talking to Ohio Dominican and I just visited Wheeling Jesuit last week,” Curtis said.
Curtis seemed to get a pretty good feel of Wheeling Jesuit on his visit.
“It went well. He told me I’d have to get my ACT score up. But, he basically told me, once I get my ACT score up, they are probably going to offer me. He really likes me. That’s who I’ve been talking to the most is Wheeling Jesuit.”
“I like the campus; it’s a small, nice campus. And I really like Coach [Danny] Sancomb and how they play. I played with them and they play at a fast pace and that’s how I like to play, just push it,” Curtis said.
Right now, Curtis carries a 15 score on the ACT, to go alongside a 2.7 GPA. He will re-take the test in October and is doing an afterschool study program in preparation.
In choosing a school, coaches and environment will be crucial.
“I just want to feel comfortable anywhere I go and know that it’s a coach that’s on my side,” Curtis said.
Curtis hasn’t yet visited nearby Ohio Dominican, but that might change before the end of the week.
“He texted me like last week and I was supposed to come over there and practice with the players. But, I haven’t talked to him recently. So, it’ll probably be before this week is over,” Curtis told Prep Hoops.
Curtis also holds interest from University of Northwestern Ohio and Pikeville, but doesn’t talk to them as often as Wheeling Jesuit and Ohio Dominican.
