Prospect Spotlight: Finn Sullivan (2018)
Torrey Pines combo guard Finn Sullivan is a rare breed among his classmates in the Southern California high school basketball scene.
During a time when no one bats an eye at a kid who has been held back once, and it’s common practice for kids to be held back twice, the 6-foot-3 rising senior entered his final season of prep ball at the age of 16.
Sullivan doesn’t seem care much about being younger than most juniors and even some sophomores, but he does think it will all even out come the next level.
Rising senior Finn Sullivan is poised for a breakout season at Torrey Pines High.“I feel like it’s a little bit of a set-back,” Sullivan told Prep Hoops So-Cal after a strong performance at the Creme of the County. “A lot of those guys have already peaked and I think I have more upside.”
Sullivan is dead on about his upside potential and one of his best attributes is his high basketball IQ.
He can play both guard spots due to his combination of size, improved perimeter shooting and ability to create for others off the bounce.
Sullivan used his skill set as a key contributor to the Falcons’ 28-5 season last year, scoring 7.2 points per game, while dishing out 3.6 assists and grabbing 3.5 rebounds per contest.
If there’s one thing that Sullivan worked on most over the summer it was getting his body right.
“I have to get stronger,” the lanky 170-pounder said. “It’s going to be important for me to add weight and muscle to be able to compete at the next level.”
Where exactly Sullivan will end up at the next level is still very much in the air as he’s hearing from a host of local and west coast Division II programs.
“I just want to go to a school that fits me best,” Sullivan said of his recruitment. “It’s a place I will be at for four years, so I want to be happy both on and off the court.”
