Player Profile: Micah Garrett 2020 (West Linn HS/FAST)
Our initial class of 2020 rankings is nearing completion, but it’s safe to say that West Linn’s Micah Garrett has secured a spot at or near the top of the list. We caught up with the 6’3 wing at the recent Prep Hoops Oregon Top 250 Showcase to talk about his aau experience, update his recruiting, and preview the Lions’ upcoming season.
“Playing on the AAU circuit with FAST helped me improve a ton because I got to play against some of the best players in the country at my age. The Nike EYBL is no joke, every game was big time competition.” When asked what he gained most from all of his playing experiences this summer Garrett replied, “Confidence. Moving in to a bigger role with the West Linn varsity and then being one of the leaders of FAST showed me that I can play at a high level and lead my team(s) to victory.”
Despite the fact that he has yet to play a game as a sophomore, Garrett updated us on his recruiting, “Lately I’ve received a lot of letters of interest but no offers. Hopefully my first offer is coming soon. Schools that have shown interest include Santa Barbara, Idaho, Eastern Washington, Wake Forest, Oregon State, Oregon and others.” “I’m a long ways away from making a college decision so at this point I’m just focusing on making connections with players and coaches and trying to learn as much as each program as I can.”
When asked to discuss his strengths and weaknesses as a player, Garrett had this to say, “I feel like I’m an athletic guard that likes to push the ball in transition and can score in a variety of ways. I also feel like I’m a good rebounder, especially for a guard.” As for things to work on, I can get better handling the ball and going to my right to score. I also can continue to improved as a defender.”
Prep Hoops Oregon Evaluation:
Micah Garrett is a 6’3 wing in the class of 202o who is entering his sophomore season at West Linn HS. He recently competed in the Top 250 Showcase where he showed off an improved level of athleticism. He was quicker to the ball and also displayed an ability to finish at the rim in transition and in the half court. A streaky shooter, Garrett must become more consistent with his jump shot to reach his ceiling. Garrett is receiving early interest from a variety of D1 programs and we believe that he should be on the radar of D1 programs, especially those that fall in to the mid major category.
