Pangos All Frosh/Soph Camp: Best Motors (2020)
Best Motors (Class of 2020)
CJ Woods (Los Angeles/Brentwood)
2020, 6-foot-4, 190 pounds
Joel’s Take: At this camp, Woods was man among boys. The burly 4-man has soft hands, excellent timing, and shows great instincts in the paint area. He has a tenacious mind set when attacking the glass and he rebounds both in and out of his area. While operating in the paint he knows how to carve out space and he possesses excellent timing. In addition, he runs hard in transition and can finish through contact. The next step in his development will be developing a go-to move from the elbow.
Tyree Campbell (Etiwanda High School)
2020, WF, 6-foot-3, 165 pounds
Joel’s Take: Campbell is a wing-type with long arms, good speed and quickness, and has a definite nose for the ball at both ends of the floor. He excels in transition where he sprints the floor and he can finish due to his slashing style to the basket. He has the length and bounce to affect the game in the areas of rebounding and finishing through contact. Defensively, he anticipates well in the passing lanes and has active hands while defending on the perimeter. His offensive game is still in it’s rudimentary stages, but he definitely has upside.
DJ Jackson (San Bernadino/Cajon)
2020, PG, 6-foot, 150 pounds
Joel’s Take: Jackson was not only one of the most improved players we saw over the weekend, but it’s his assertiveness at both ends that grabs your attention. He is the type of point guard that is always in attack mode. He pushes it hard in transition and either attacks the rim or kicks it out to an open teammate. His knack for always being around the ball was impressive as he utilized his quick hands on the defensive end to cause deflections and some steals. Due to his aggressive mindset he’ll venture in the paint and grab the occasional rebound to get the break started. Overall, I’m looking forward to watching his development in the coming seasons.
Quincy McGriff (Santa Monica HS)
2020, 6-foot-5, 210 pounds
Joel’s Take: The best ways to describe McGriff is “basketball player.” The big-bodied 4-man impacts the game in a variety of ways. Due to his IQ and feel for the game he is always around the ball and he possesses soft hands. He is not an explosive jumper, but he knows how to carve out space and his instincts in the paint are impressive. Offensively, he is an aggressive finisher who can play through contact and he exhibited some solid face-up skills. Due to his motor and savvy for the game, he should be an impactful player this up-and-coming season.
