Iowa Dynasty Fall League Week 2 Standouts
2020 5-11 SG Tyler Schrepfer (Clear Creek-Amana/Pancheros)
The sophomore guard from CCA averaged eight points in a pair of games during week two, doing a majority of his damage within a 90-second span in the first contest. He reminds me a lot of former Davenport Assumption guard Cam Sturtevant, from the build, to the hair, to the game. He’s a quality lefty scoring guard with the ability to score at all three levels, and he’s capable of getting scorching hot for a bit. He has a pretty stroke, plays under control and has a good enough handle and body control to get to the rim and finish effectively. This talented sophomore has a bright future for the Clippers.
2018 6-0 PG Paul McGee (Iowa City West/Formosa)
McGee’s teams have had a lot of success in this league over the last few years, and that’s no accident. He does a lot of little things that help his team win – rebounding from his guard spot at a high level, playing high quality defense and keeping the ball moving. With some key pieces from his team missing this week, he did a bit more scoring than usual, finishing with a team-high 24 points. He has great length and the ability to finish around the rim at a high level. He’s a good athlete who can get to the rim and does a great job competing on the offensive glass, where he got a good number of his scoring opportunities. On the defensive end, he has great lateral movement and his length helps him defend multiple spots.
2018 5-10 PG Colin Westmoreland (Cedar Rapids Washington/El Patron)
Washington’s senior point guard scored a game-high 19 points in El Patron’s loss, showing the ability to score in a variety of ways. He knocked down a 3, showing a good looking stroke, but where he was most impressive was in his ability to get to the rim for finishes around or through contact. He’s a solid ball handling lead guard who does a nice job changing pace to help get by defenders and to the rim. He’s not afraid to contact and he also displayed a quality mid-range game. He’s able to score or distribute effectively, and should put together a strong year for a Warriors team that is in need of some scoring punch.
2020 6-2 GF Keshawn Christian (Iowa City High/Coralville Chiropractic)
Christian is among the best players in the state in the 2020 class, and he showed why in his team’s win, scoring a game-high 25 points and showing a much improved jumper. He knocked down five 3s in the win, showing confidence in his jumper with range well beyond the high school line. He knocked down his 3s off the dribble and off the catch, and when defenders started to close out too aggressively, he used it against them to get to the rim for strong finishes. He’s got a great frame, with the strength to finish through contact and the explosiveness to finish above the rim. As he continues to refine his skill set, he’ll turn himself into one of the better scoring threats in the area.
2018 6-5 SF Dadrian Hoambrecker (Iowa City West/Pancheros)
A long, athletic wing, Hoambrecker has showed the ability to score in bunches throughout the first few weeks of the fall league, averaging 23.5 points in a pair of games in week two. He’s showcased a much improved jumper from the arc, especially when he’s in rhythm. But where he excels is with his ability to finish around the rim, with great length and athleticism. He does a great job getting on the offensive glass and getting putbacks, and when he’s aggressive, he’s able to get to the rim, using his frame to bully smaller defenders en route to the paint. When he’s engaged defensively, he has the tools to be a good defender.
2019 5-11 SG Jacob Klein (Iowa City West/Pancheros)
Klein averaged 17.5 points in a pair of week two games, including a great 23-point showing in their second game of the day. He’s a quality shot making guard who does a nice job using creative dribbling and footwork to create space to get his shot off. He has an extremely quick release on his jumper and he’s becoming more and more confident as a shooter each time I see him play. He’s a bit streaky, but when he gets it going, he can fill it up in a hurry.
