The third Creme of the County Camp: An overview
LA JOLLA, Ca. – The third Crème of County proved another success Saturday in showcasing most of the best of the talent in San Diego County – and a few beyond the county borders – during nine showcase games at La Country Day School.
Aaron Burgin (@FullTimeHoops1) is a San Diego-based news journalist who doubles as the foremost authority on San Diego hoops – the latter of which he puts to good use as a member of the Prep Hoops So-Cal staff.
And on Saturday, thanks to the hard work of Burgin & Co., 200-plus high school and media school players got to put their skills on display in front of numerous scouts (including myself, Joel Francisco and Devin Ugland, as well as Ronnie Flores of BallisLife, Dinos Trigonis of Pangos Basketball, Jason Simon of West Coast Elite and Keith Howard of IEBP).
The most compelling of those games – by a landslide – was the 2019 (junior class) Crème Game.
The Black jersey-wearing crew led by double-figure margins much of the way before the White jerseys stormed back behind a Rejean (Boogie) Ellis-led rally
Ellis (who attends Mission Bay High and scored a team-high 20 points), whipped a pass to Malcolm Little (Balboa) into the left corner and Little’s 3 tied the score at 80 with about 10 seconds to go.
But Sedrick Altman (Ontario Colony) took the inbound pass, got into the lane and was fouled by Ellis before he could get to the rim with a second to.
Altman knocked in the first free throw (giving him two points by camp rules utilized to keep the games at about an hour a pop) for the 82-80 victory.
The 6-foot-2 Altman scored 23 points with a couple of 3s and the most spectacular in-game dunk of the event.
In the 2018 (current seniors) Crème Game, forward Adrian Lee (pictured/Chula Vista Castle Park) scored 18 points and swingman Thomas Marcus (a transfer to San Diego High by way of Horizon Christian) added 12 as the White Jerseys held off their Black counterparts, 93-86.
The left-handed Marcus also won the Dunk Contest.
