2021 Watch List: Bigs who will Make a Big Impact
Bigs usually take the most amount of time to develop. However, there are a couple of bigs who could be competing to play right away at their prospective programs. Both of these prospects will get time on the block as well as along the perimeter. Versatility is the name of the game and these bigs look ready to make an impact from day one.
Bigs who will Make a Big Impact:
Carter Van Hammond 6’7 PF Perry
Van Hammond is easy to spot due to his size. However, watching him on the floor, makes him even more memorable. Van Hammond is more of a back to the basket big at this point. He finishes well around the rim, particularly with his right hand. In addition, he has some of the most upside out of any players in the state. He is a legitimate 6’7/6’8 as a freshman and has a great work ethic. He was named co-MVP at a WCE event. However, more accolades will be coming soon. Further, as a player for the Vipers and PowerHouse, he was trained by one of the best in the business in Vaughn Compton. Van Hammond will make some noise immediately and carve out a name for himself at Perry under the tutelage of legendary coach Sam Duane.
DaRon Holmes 6’7 SF/PF Millennium
Holmes has blown up as of recent. He has grown about 5 inches in the past year and he brings a versatile skill set. Holmes can play on the block as well as on the wing. He played a lot of minutes for Millennium this past off-season. Mixed with Justus Jackson, it is safe to assume that Millennium has one of the best 2021 classes coming in out of anyone in the state. Holmes can take players off of the dribble as well as anyone, and he finishes with a lot of explosion at the rim. He has already drawn interest from colleges as he has taken an unofficial visit to Millennium. He is far from his potential as he has the ability to be one of the best players in the entire state.
