West Coast Elite End of Summer Camp – Top 2020’s and Below
Ryan Silver and his crew at newly-minted West Coast Elite put on some of the most well-run local camps in Southern California and the End of Summer showcase setting was no different.
The camp featured upwards of 200 prospects ranging from rising seniors to incoming freshman and from a variety of different levels of college potential.
In this piece, we take a look at the top prospects from the class of 2020 and younger who made their way to El Camino College in Torrance on Sunday.
Top Prospects: 2020 and below
Ethan Berks (Santa Monica)
Berks has a solid foundation to build upon. At 6-feet-7 with length and a mobile wing skill-set, Berks has plenty of tools that make him a potential Division I prospect moving forward. The Santa Monica High sophomore shoots it well out to 3-point range, but also does a lot of damage in the paint as an active offensive rebounder.
Lamont Butler (Riverside Poly)
Everyone familiar with the Southern California basketball scene knows Butler is one of the best true point guards in the 2020 class. He’s a talented and willing passer who makes reads a couple steps ahead of the defense. But if there’s one guy who scouts want to see look for his shot more, it’s Butler. The 5-foot-10 sophomore a capable mid-range shooter and can get to the basket whenever he chooses, he just needs to choose those options more often.
Josh Christopher (Mayfair)
We wrote about Christopher in the top shooting guards list and it would be criminal to not include the highest-ranked player at the camp in the top 2020 list. At 6-feet-4, Christopher has the ideal size and game for a Division I two-guard. The Mayfair High sophomore has six high major offers – Arizona, Cal, Florida State, Oregon, UCLA and USC – in addition to plenty of mid-major interest.
DJ Davis (Corona Centennial)
Davis is another 2020 prospect who was on our top shooting guards list. The 6-foot two-guard has a good feel for the game both on and off the ball and his shot-making ability, especially from 3-point range, is rivaled by few in the class. Davis used the camp setting to work on his high ball-screen IQ as Centennial will need him to mold into more of a point guard this season.
Dominick Harris averaged better than 25 points per game as freshman at Pacifica Christian.Ryan Evans (Santa Margarita)
Evans was knocking down shots from all over on Sunday. The 6-foot-2 shooting guard from South Orange County is a dead-eye catch and shooter from distance and has added some mid-range pull-up ability to his arsenal. The next step in Evans’ game is tightening up and becoming more confident with his ball handling in order to add some playmaking skills to his repertoire.
Dominick Harris (Pacifica Christian)
Harris was one of the top freshman scorers in California during his freshman season at Pacific Christian in Newport Beach. The 6-foot-2 combo guard was impressive on Sunday as he struck a good balance between finding his own shot and creating for others. Harris showcased improved burst on his first step and ability to split double teams and get into the paint.
Christian Moore (class of 2022)
Moore is the younger brother of Santa Monica senior (and recent Rice commit) Payton Moore, and while it’s still very early in his development, the rising eighth grader more than held his own against the high school competition. At 6-foot-3, Moore is a fluid and mobile athlete who can score with either hand around the basket and knock down shots out to 3-point range. His performance earned him a spot in the Top 60 showcase game and it wouldn’t be a stretch to say he could’ve been in the Top 40 game.
