High School’s across Kentucky have opened their doors for the start of a new school year, leading Prep Hoops Kentucky to open its doors to “way-to-early” preseason outlooks. Over the next few days we will give you our “Super Six Projections”, breaking down our picks for the top six players in Kentucky’s 16 regions. Here we breakdown the 3rd Region.
3rd Region “Super Six” Projections:
(Rankings are in no particular order)
- Luke Hayden , Owensboro Catholic (2018, guard)
Hayden helped lead Catholic to a 22-11 overall record last season, averaging 14.3 points and 5 rebounds per game. He shot just below 45% from the field (36% from 3-point range). Expect the Aces to contend for a regional championship this season.
- Blake Boswell, Daviess County (2018, guard)
Boswell averaged just over 14 points and 3 rebounds per game as a junior last season. He helped lead Daviess County to both district and regional championships, so it’s clear what goals he may have going into his senior year. Last season the Panthers finished at 21-13.
- Jay Owen, Daviess County (2018, guard)
Playing alongside Boswell will give Daviess County an opportunity to contend for a regional championship. As stated previously, the Panthers fell just short last season, losing out to Meade County. Owen averaged just over 11.1 points per game. On 164 attempts, Owen shot just under 40% from 3-point range.
- Aiden Matthews, Meade County (2018, forward)
Matthews was a junior on last year’s state tournament team, averaging 10.3 points and 6 rebounds per game. Aiden scored 13 points in the Green Waves regional championship victory over Daviess County. At 6’4, Matthews has good size to make him a small college prospect.
- Nathan Boyle, Apollo (2018, guard)
Boyle will pick up some slack left by 20 points per game scorer Zach Hopewell, who graduated last school year. Nathan averaged 13.1 points and 4 rebounds as a junior.
- G’Corian Gardner, Owensboro (2018, guard)
Owensboro will look to get back on top of the 3rd Region, and the hope is that Gardner can help in the process. Last season the Red Devils struggled, finishing the season at 13-15. Gardner averaged 14.3 points and 3 rebounds shooting right at 50% from the field as a junior.
