Prospect Spotlight: Steven Fitzgerald (2018)
Steven Fitzgerald is entering the 2017-2018 high school season ranked as one of the top 5 players in Kentucky’s 2018 class. The 6’3 guard from Pulaski County High School in Somerset, KY is coming off a junior season that saw him average 25.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Pulaski County also made it’s first trip to the Kentucky Sweet Sixteen state tournament in many years.
“Last season we accomplished a lot,” said Fitzgerald. “We won the 12th Region and earned a spot in the state tournament. I also was fortunate to score my 2,000th career point.”
Steven hopes this coming season mirrors the last. “We want to win region once again. We will be younger, but it can still happen.”
This summer saw Fitzgerald competing with one of the elite AAU programs in the country, the Louisville Magic. “We went undefeated in the Gauntlet during the spring and won two tournaments throughout the summer, one in Atlanta at the Bob Gibbons event and one in Louisville.”
This summer also saw Fitzgerald working to improve game. “I really worked hard on my ball-handling and just getting stronger”.
Fitzgerald can score from many different spots on the floor. “I’m definitely a shooter, but I can score the ball at any level. I feel like once I get my handles at a higher level, I’ll be an elite scorer. I’m athletic, too. So I have an ability to finish high at the rim.”
Steven has had offers from Eastern Kentucky, Samford , Tennessee Tech , Old Dominion, VCU , Ball State , SEMO , Middle Tennessee State, and Stetson. He’s also receiving interest from Western Kentucky and Virginia Tech.
