Prospect Spotlight: Devin Young (2018)
Headed into his senior season, Devin Young is aiming to be South Oldham’s leading scorer.
The 6’6″, 185-pounder averaged 16.5 points per game last season, good for second on the team.
Young and the Dragons finished 26-6 this past season just missing out on the state tournament. He broke his nose towards the end of the season and had to wear a mask. He says he learned how to deal with adversity.
He spent his second summer with the Louisville Lightning playing travel ball.
“This summer I spent a lot of time trying to improve my strength in the weight room,” Young told Prep Hoops Kentucky. “It was a good experience and it provided me with a handful of opportunities I wouldn’t otherwise would’ve gotten.”
Young says he started playing basketball as soon as he could walk. He first played organized basketball in kindergarten.
No offers have come yet for Young, but he’s drawn interest from Georgetown (KY), Malone, Lipscomb and Mount St. Joseph.
He called his 3-point shooting and length his biggest assets. He’s aiming to improve his ball handling, strength and finish at the rim.
Young’s interest ranges from Division I all the way down to Divison III. He should find a landing spot in Division II or III. He has solid instincts and his long arms give him the ability to see over his defenders on jumpers and battle defensively.
