Prospect Spotlight: David Agba (2018)
There were moments last season when Eastvale Roosevelt wing David Agba showed flashes of a player who could be the go-to guy on a high school team.
But playing behind two gifted Division I recruits didn’t allow much time for Agba to shine and he respected the process and is now ready for his turn.
“I feel like I have to step up a lot,” Agba said. “I have to be a scorer, a better leader and set a role for the rest of the players on the team.”
The muscular 6-foot-4 prospect said that he’s used the spring and summer with his Inland 17U team to focus on developing his perimeter skill set.
2018 wing David Agba is working in the necessary skills to become a go-to guy for his high school team.“I’m working a lot on my shooting and ball handling,” he said. “I need to sharpen my guard skills because that’s what I’m going to be playing this season.”
Agba thrived both on and off the ball during the club season due to the fast-paced and open court style it lends to, and luckily for him, his high school coach Stephen Singleton is no stranger to allowing his team to get up and down.
“I’m used to playing like this,” he said. “It’s how I’ve been playing all my life and I feel like I can play all positions. The best part of my game is slashing and finishing.
“I’ve been working on my playmaking,” Agba added. “I need to use my vision more.”
The rising senior, who averaged 6.7 points, 6.5 rebounds last season, really made his impact on the defensive end with his ability to guard, really, all five positions on the floor in some capacity, while recording 1.5 steals per contest.
Agba noted that he finished last school year with a cumulative 3.6 grade point average, has interest from one school in the Mountain West Conference and has an idea of what he would like to major in in college.
“I’m getting interest from San Diego State,” he said. “I’m looking for a good combination of coaching staff, campus and academics. I’m hoping to major in engineering because that’s what my dad does. I want to follow after him.”
