Maryland, DC, and Virginia’s Top Stretch Bigs
In anticipation of the upcoming high school season, we will be taking a closer look at various teams and players throughout the DMV. Below we take a closer look at the top stretch bigs in from DC, Maryland, and Virginia. The list is organized in no particular order.
ROBBIE BERAN | COLLEGIATE ’19
Team Richmond Garner Road forward Robbie Beran proved that he should not be left on the perimeter as a result of his ability to constantly make shots from long range. The 6’7 forward displays a smooth and quick release from the catch, but also demonstrated the ability to shoot off the dribble at hoop group elite this summer.
WILL BOUNDS | BATTLEFIELD ’18
After a slow start shooting the ball during his junior season, we saw 6’7 forward Will Bounds knock down five threes against Rock Creek last season. He proceeded to knock down six over the course of his next two games, and 24 throughout the season. Look for Bounds, a gym rat who has worked hard on his overall game this summer, to bump that number up this season.
JERMAINE HARRIS | ROCK CREEK ’18
While most would consider Jermaine Harris a back to the basket specialist, he is actually one of the more well rounded post scorers we’ve seen. The 6’10 big man, who hit 14 threes as a junior, shot an outstanding 46% from three .
ANTHONY HIGGS | PERRY HALL ’18
Anthony Higgs is a left handed power forward who displays a smooth and consistent stroke from beyond the arc. The 6’8 rising senior shot 40% from three on EYBL, and made 3 of his 5 attempts at peach jam.
DOWAR JIOKLOW | FLINT HILL ’20
Even though he’s still somewhat trying to find his identity, there’s little doubt that Dowar Jioklow can shoot the ball well from the perimeter. The 6’8 lefty made just one three as a freshman, but we expect that number to increase given what we saw from him this summer.
PATRICK KELLY | VES ’19
Three-point marksman Patrick Kelly first caught our eye at the state tournament with his smooth and accurate touch from the. At 6’8+, Kelly brings good size, spacing, and feel at his position.
JEREMY ROBINSON | PAUL VI ’18
Jeremy Robinson made 18 threes in his first WCAC experience last year at PVI. With a full year under his belt, followed by a strong AAU campaign, we expect the lefty from North Carolina to improve on that number this season.
DAJOUR RUCKER | CAPE HENRY ’19
Dajour Rucker thoroughly impressed for Cape Henry in the state final four with a memorable 29-point, 10 rebound effort in an overtime loss to PVI. At 6’6, he is most consistent shooter on his high school team, and has a chance to put up serious numbers this season.
JALEN SMITH | MOUNT ST. JOSEPH ’18
One of the top stretch bigs in the country, Jalen Smith shot 44% from three in EYBL bracket play at Peach Jam. The 6’10+ rising senior, who after last season was named Gatorade Player of the Year in Maryland, is poised for a highly productive year and could quite possibly win that award for the second year running.
CHARLIE WEBER | BISHOP O’CONNELL ’19
Charlie Weber has a chance to put up monster numbers this year as he will likely play meaningful minutes alongside a dynamic back court for Head Coach Joe Wootten. The 6’7 forward has consistently showcased the ability to make shots from the perimeter this summer, and should make a significant impact in his first WCAC experience.
