Hopkinsville Guard Transfers to Aspire Basketball Academy
After leading the Hopkinsville Tigers to a state tournament berth last season, senior guard Jalen Johnson has transferred to newly minted Louisville Prep School, the Aspire Basketball Academy. Aspire is one of the top prep basketball programs in the entire country, and is coming to Louisville by-way of North Scottsdale, AZ. The plan to relocate to Louisville was announced in April. Players participating with the program will be enrolled students at DeSales High School.
Johnson leaves a Hopkisville program that won 28 games, winning both the 8th district and 2nd region tournament championships. They ended their season at Rupp, falling 64-81 to Fern Creek. It was Johnson’s fourth trip to the ‘Sweet Sixteen’ while playing with the Tigers.
During his junior campaign, Johnson averaged 17.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 45% from the field (38% from 3-point range).
The now Aspire Academy Wizard plays with great athleticism and scores very well down hill and towards the basket. In joining Aspire, he will be giving up playing on the gridiron. Johnson was Hopkinsville’s quarterback, the lefty threw for over 2,300 yards and 31 touchdowns.
Johnson has heard from Stetson, Western Kentucky, Murray State, and Samford.
