Arizona 2021 Watch List: Cesar Chavez Duo
Cesar Chavez rarely has an issue with talent and athleticism. Despite that, they have to be very excited about two incoming freshman that will be coming in. Two of the top guards in the class of 2021, Tyrone Washington and Ricardo Sarmiento, will look to contribute to Cesar Chavez immediately. They are both very skilled and have the potential to make noise as freshmen.
Cesar Chavez Duo
Tyrone “Ty Ty” Washington
Ty Ty Washington is described by current Prep Hoops writer, Kaimarr Price, as being a bull dog. I could not agree more. At times, he looks disinterested on defense which is common for an underclassmen. However, he is a tough on ball defender who plays with a lot of grit and toughness.
Offensively, Washington has an elite level mid-range jumper and does a great job of stopping before the help side defense rotates. His ability to shoot the basketball from deep is an added bonus as well. Further, he has good size and is able to get to the rim at an extremely high rate despite only being a freshman.
Ricardo Sarmiento
Sarmiento is as much of a knock down shooter in this class as there is. He is capable shooting it off of screens, in catch and shoot situations, and off of the dribble. Moreover, he does not have to have the basketball in his hands the entire possession in order to make an impact. He is a solid scorer who plays with the flow of the offense.
Defensively, Sarmiento plays with a lot of toughness and intensity. He is solid on the basketball and has a high IQ. Despite only being a freshman, it is apparent that he has played a lot of basketball as he has a great feel for how to rotate on defense. Moreover, he is willing to do more than just be a scorer. He understands how to do the little things that impact wins.
High School Impact
As mentioned earlier, Cesar Chavez has no shortage of talent. However, both of these prospects are talented enough that they could conceivably be 4 year starters. At the very least, it is quite likely that they will make an impact at the varsity level for all four years that they are at Cesar Chavez.
The future looks really bright for Cesar Chavez as long as these two prospects are around. Sarmiento and Washington have a lot of upside and will bring toughness and scoring to the varsity level right away.
