Top Five: Texas GASO Part 1
The Great American Shootout was a fantastic event filled with close games, high level talent, and college coaches. Here are some of my observations front m this weekend at GASO.
Jalen Crutchfield is an underrated rebounder.
At 6’3, Crutchfield has some good size and the willingness to get in the mix for a board.
It is rare to see a 6’3 shooter who will go grab the rebound in traffic. That will help Crutchfield at the next level.
He shot it well all weekend but I was more impressed with his ability to finish in transition.
Adokiye Iyaye is a D1 player, stop with the nonsense
I heard chatter this weekend of coaches first not believing Iyaye was a D1 prospect at first.
Iyaye is a two way player who has a high basketball IQ. He is a great teammate who does not need to dominate the ball be successful.
He has an improving jumper and above average athleticism.
People will laugh in a couple at folks who doubted Iyaye’s talent while he has success at UTSA.
Stephon Hall’s shot has come a long way
Hall has always had a nice form on his jumper but it was consistently flat.
Hall has put in time in the gym and you can tell. His confidence in his jumper is immediate.
The midrange pull ups hasn’t always been in Halls game but he has become a solid spot up shooter this summer which has raised his stock.
Grayson Nix is a bowling ball
Nix overwhelmed his opponents with his sheer power when charging towards the rim.
Defenders would reach or over closeout and Nix was hitting and bumping whoever got in his way towards the rim.
One of the more physical offensive players in the state.
Oklahoma AAU landscape has stepped up
I don’t remember a summer recently where there were so many quality AAU teams from Oklahoma.
Everyone knows the success and talent that PWP and Team Griffin bring but new programs have solidified themselves this summer.
OnPoint, OK Power, 3D Athletes, and a resurgence from Gym Time Hoops and more have created a hyper competitive landscape in Oklahoma.
It is great to see kids finding an AAU program that fits and have success.
