Stock Risers: Double Pump Best of Summer
ANAHEIM, Ca. — It’s no secret that the July live viewing periods are the best times for prospects to not only improve their game, but also to earn themselves some college recruiting interest.
In Southern California specifically, there are three major events which attract countless college coaches from all levels and the dream of just about every high school basketball player is to get the opportunity to play at the next level.
The following five prospects used Friday night at the Double Pump Best of Summer tournament to pique the interest of college coaches.
Stock Risers
Sedrick Altman, 2019, G/F, IEBP All-Stars
Altman is one of the top perimeter defenders in the class and he used his combination of length, speed and anticipation to cause problems for ball handlers yet again. The 6-foot-3 Colony High wing is adept at jumping passing lanes for steals and finishing on the other end.
Jordan Jones, 2018, 6-4, SG, BTI Select
Jones is a crafty left-handed scorer off the wing. The Oaks Christian High product can knock down the 3-point shot both off the catch and off the bounce, but can also get to the rack and euro-step by a defender or finish through contact. Jones has an inherent feel for the game which helps him not force actions and make solid decisions.
Chris Koon, 2019, SG, Pump-N-Run Select 2019
Koon had a solid high school season, playing a major role in Rolling Hills Prep’s run to the CIF State Division 5 championship. The junior-to-be is a smooth shooting 6-foot-5 lefty who can stroke it from 3-point range, but is adding to his game with some drive and finish ability.
Neil Owens, 2019, PG, BTI Select 2019
Owens seems to always make the right plays at the right time. He’s surrounded by talent on his BTI Select 2019 squad and doesn’t try to do too much with the ball and instead plays the game at an ideal pace and puts his teammates in position to succeed. The 5-foot-10 point guard is a consistent threat from 3-point range and has soft touch on his floater.
Christian Rose, 2019, PF, Gamepoint Pump-N-Run
As noted on Twitter, Rose had one of the better games we’ve seen him play. He’s always been a high motor and active player, which he continued to do by crashing the defensive and offensive glass and running the floor, but the 6-foot-6 power forward is now finishing with improved power around the basket. The Bishop’s School product showed some improved ball skills and touch on the perimeter.
