Recruiting Report: Lucas Duax (2018)
Recently, Dubuque Hempstead 6-foot-3 guard Lucas Duax received his first offer from Division II Upper Iowa. He could be adding to that soon.
This weekend, Duax will be in Lawrence, Kansas for the Hardwood Classic, where a slew of college coaches will converge. And he’ll no doubt turn some heads.
He mentioned which schools have been showing interest so far, and it’s mostly of the D2 variety.
“Upper Iowa gave me an offer about a month ago, they’ve been contacting me the most. Parkside in Wisconsin has been contacting me a lot, as well as Hillsdale in Michigan, Truman State has given me a couple calls. And then lately Wayne State has been contacting me, so those are the D2s,” said Duax.
Duax has been in close contact with Upper Iowa over the past several months, and had some nice things to say about the coaches and the program.
“I have been on a couple visits and I’ve played in a couple open gyms as well. And ya, Coach (Brooks) McKowen has done a great job up there, they had a really good year last year,” he said. “I like the players, I like the coaches and I like the campus — I’ve been impressed with them.”
Other smaller programs Duax mentioned had shown interest are UW-Platteville, Oshkosh, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Eau Claire and Wartburg.
It’s not the level of school that’s most important to Duax — Iowa’s 20th-ranked 2018 — but the fit.
“I just want to find the right college for me, whether that’s D3, D2, or maybe even D1, if I can get a scholarship out of that, that would be great, that’s the ultimate goal,” said Duax. “I just want to find the right fit for me athletically and academically.”
On the court, Duax — a sharpshooting combo-guard with some decent size — has been working to be more of a versatile threat offensively.
“I’ve definitely been trying to work on being more two-dimensional; like getting to the hoop more and creating for my teammates rather than just being a catch-and-shooter,” he said. “Which that is one of my best skill-sets, is shooting as point guard.”
