Recruiting Report: Alex Garcia (2018)
Change has been beneficial for Alex Garcia.
New Mexico’s loss has become Southern California’s gain. Garcia, a 6-3 senior-to-be out of Rolling Hills Prep, has played well this summer and projects to being one of the more promising sleepers in So-Cal.
Harvey Kitani, who coached at famed Fairfax High School for 35 years, is slowly building a formidable squad at Rolling Hills Prep, led by the aforementioned Garcia. “Alex will definitely be one of the leaders for this up-and-coming season, due to his scoring touch and leadership,” Harvey noted. “He has been working very hard since the regular season has ended.”
When evaluating Garcia, it’s obvious that shooting is his forte. He handles the ball well in the open court and can score at all three levels. Whether it’s knocking in deep 3-pointers or converting mid-range pull-ups in transition, Garcia can definitely score.
Garcia has been one of the better surprises this summerIn addition, Garcia has added other elements to his game since the regular season to help his stock with coaches and scouts alike. “I’ve been focusing on strength (added 15 pounds since the end of the regular season), ball handling, and outside shooting since the season ended.”
“I feel I still need to continue to hone my defensive skills and facilitating to elevate my game for the next level.” Although Garcia has ideal size for the 1 or the 2 and he’s a formidable scorer, college interest appears to be just warming up.
“I have interest from Whitman and New Mexico, but it’s still very early in the process.”
Overall, Garcia should garner attention this July Evaluation period due to his size, moxie, and ability to convert buckets at all three levels.
