Recap: All-West Camp – best of 2020-21 classes
WESTMINSTER, Ca. – Some of the Southland’s best prospects in the classes of 2020 and ’21 were on display during the two-day Fullcourt Press All-West Camp, presented by Pangos, that wrapped up early Friday evening at Westminster High.
Here are the five that most impressed myself, Devin Ugland and Joel Francisco during the Dinos Trigonis- and Etop Udo-Ema-fronted event.
Look for them to be among the best sophomores and freshmen in SoCal next winter:
5. Ben Todd (Northridge Heritage Christian/6-foot-9/Class of 2020): The left hander played attended Faith Baptist in Canoga Park as a freshman but, as a sophomore, is scheduled to play for a program that was a part of the 16-team field in the CIF Southern Section’s Open (top) Division playoffs last spring. Todd is a fluid athlete but needs to refine his offensive skill and become a more forceful rebounder to become a dominating inside presence.
4. Justin Kirkpatrick (Hesperia Oak Hills/6-3/2020): Kirkpatrick was among the most versatile players in the camp, regardless of class. He’s skilled enough with the ball to play anywhere on the perimeter and strong enough to play in the post, too.
3. Justin Ebor (Oak Park/6-7/2021): There may not have been a better long-term prospect in the camp. He’s crown nearly four inches in a year or so and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him top out at nearly 6-10 before he graduates from high school. He can score with either hand inside the lane.
2.Evan Oliver (5-9/Redland Citrus Valley/2020): His jump sizzled Thursday and it was much of the same thing for the son of the Cal State San Bernardino, who plays for the Riverside-based Team Eleate program that has produced NBA forwards Kawhi Leonard and Tony Snell, and is now led by 2018 standout Matt Bradley. 1. Devin Askew (6-2/Santa Ana Mater Dei/2021): The eventual replacement for Class of 2018 point guard Spencer Freedman is already a member of Coach Gary McKnight’s program. He’ll give the Monarchs the extra ball-handler and playmaker to go along with Freedman that was missing the past couple of seasons.
