Recap: All-West Camp – Best of 2018 Class
WESTMINSTER, Ca — The 2017 installment of the Full-Court Press All-West Camp drew players from all over Southern California.
Many were from big name Southland high schools with Division I potential, but there were plenty of prospects in attendance who were flying under-the-radar as far as collegiate level and potential go.
The strong mix of players made for an interesting watch over the course of two days at Westminster high school, presenting the opportunity to unearth some of the more unknown prospects as All-West Camp top performers in the 2018 class.
5. Sean Larimore (Paraclete)
We wrote about Larimore in the big men standout piece on day one and he continued his strong performance through Friday. The 6-7 stretch four man was consistent yet again from 3-point range, but best of all, Larimore played hard and played the right way every moment he was on the floor.
4. Boe Nguidjol (Central City Value)
The 6-8 Nguidjol had his hands in a little bit of everything Friday. He contested shots at the rim, ran the floor with purpose, finished around the rim with authority and even stepped out and knocked down some perimeter shots.
3. Gary Harris (L.A. Price)
Harris used the camp to showcase his explosive athleticism off the wing and smooth crafty finishes around the basket. At 6-5 with length and long strides, Harris is difficult for defenders to keep in front because of his ability to change direction while staying on balance. Once the blow-by occurred, Harris was above the rim for a dunk or finger-roll.
2. Deshawn Washington (Cajon)
Washington, who stands at 6-3, is a prototypical combo guard who is equally effective both on and off the ball. He has the ball skills, feel and vision of a point guard, but the size and wing scoring ability of a two guard. Washington overwhelmed his opponents with that combination over the two days.
1. Jamal Hartwell (Fairfax)
It was easy to tell which player had the most high level high school basketball experience as Hartwell drew on that to pick apart just about everyone in front of him. He was drilling his patented mid-range jump shot, but also got to the rim with ease and knocked down the open 3-pointer.
Next Five:
Bryce English (Etiwanda)
Zekiah Lovett (Redondo Union)
Josh Phillips (Edison)
Brandon Unaka (L.A. Washington)
Daniel Zahabian (Beverly Hills)
