Prospect Spotlight: Kyle Colvin (2018)
Players can take demotions in two ways: they can consider it an insult or see it as an opportunity.
Mission Prep F Kyle Colvin said he took his move down from Gamepoint 17u Pump-N-Run to the Gamepoint 17u Select team as the latter.
In his first game with his new team, Colvin started slow but gained team, hitting four three-pointers in the second half of a 63-60 win over Team ‘Zona.
Colvin scored 18 points in the second half, including a pair of crafty finishes off the dribble.
“The first half I was getting used to it,” Colvin said. “The second half, my shot felt good. The extra pass on this team is amazing, it’s fun to play with.”
Colvin, a 6-6 forward known for his feathery jump shot, played sparingly on Gamepoint’s elite team. He said that playing more minutes is helping him grow.
“I am getting better, this is getting me better,” Colvin said. “Playing on team on which I’m not playing a lot, I am not growing. This is helping me and I’m having fun.”
Colvin said he coaches have reached out to him from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and several Division II and NAIA programs, including Westmont, which is near his hometown, San Luis Obispo.
He said he wants to continue to improve his lateral quickness and speed on defense and garner more interest during July.
“July, I just want to keep growing as a player, and communicating with a few more California schools,” Colvin said.
