Prospect Spotlight: DeShaud St. Martin (2019)
We are on the tail end of summer basketball and around the country college prospects at all levels are working on their game and working toward earning an opportunity to play at the next level. Prep Hoops Kentucky puts the spotlight on prospects around the Bluegrass State.
DeShaud St. Martin is a 6’7 forward from Danville High School in Danville, KY. St. Martin helped a very young Admiral team (one that only featured two seniors) to an 11-18 overall record. DeShaud has plans for things to be different next season. “Last high school season, my first two games were rough because it was my first year and I wasn’t used to the temp of the varsity level – but as the season went along it became easier,” said St. Martin. DeShaud ended up averaging 9 points and 5 rebounds while shooting the best 3-point percentage on Danville’s team (42.5 % on 50+ attempts).
“Next season, I’m looking to win district and region, and be the go to guy on my team. I want my junior year to be my brake out season.”
This summer DeShaud has been competing with a talented M.A.T.T.S Mustangs team. “Summer ball season has been great. I stepped in the role as a go-to-guy and look forward to being that during my high school season.” Aspects of his game that he’s been working out during the off-season include working on his dribbling and mid-range jump shot. “I expect to have the ball in my hands more and being relied on to create shots for myself and my teammates.”
St. Martin’s game can be described as one who rebounds the ball well, and one who can also step out and knock down open 3’s. DeShaud has shown an ability to put the ball on the floor some and can finish on the post. “Once I get more athletic I think the sky can be the limit for me.”
In the classroom, DeShaud currently holds a 3.4 GPA. “I’d like to playg D1 basketball on an athletic scholarship, and I would like to go to a pretty big college because I like to get to know new people. Somewhere that best fits me both on and off the court is ideal.”
He currently holds no offers, but does have interest from Morehead State, Alcorn State, Arkansas State, Georgetown College, and Lindenwood. “I’m hoping to change having no offers by the end of the summer.”
