Prospect Spotlight: Christian Rose (2019)
Over the course of the last few years, class of 2019 power forward Christian Rose has made his name as a guy who will do the dirty work.
The 6-foot-7 La Jolla Bishop’s School standout sets the screens to free shooters, crashes the offensive glass to create second chance opportunities and utilizes the rim run in transition to clean up any garbage.
Rose has been busy working on his all-around skill set since the end of the high school season, but hasn’t lost focus of the little things that will stand out to college coaches.
“I have multiple coaches in my camp who tell me to work on that and focus on that,” he said. “They tell me to not worry about shots falling because that will come. I’m working on the intangibles and doing the gritty
Gamepoint Pump-N-Run PF Christian Rose is working on his perimeter skill set, but won’t lose sight of doing the dirty work.work because that’s what the team needs and no one else wants to do it.”
Doing the gritty work comes naturally to Rose, who plays club with Gamepoint Pump-N-Run’s top 16’s team, as that’s been his role as early as he can remember, and now with his junior year on the horizon, he’s starting to spend more time working on his perimeter game.
“The next step I want to see in my game is being more consistent on offense,” Rose said. “I feel like I create a lot of opportunities for others with the way I set screens, but I also create opportunities for myself and I need to finish those. I also need to be stronger with the ball and with my ball handling.”
What are some of the things Rose has been doing this spring and summer to enhance his abilities? Plenty of shooting, situational work and conditioning.
“I get in the gym at school and put up 200-300 shots a day,” Rose explained. “I shoot free throws, work on finishing in different situations, work on conditioning with sprints up and down the court and I also lift three to four times per week.”
Rose said that his recruitment is in its beginning stages and that he has some areas of study he would be interested in majoring in, including one that might come as a surprise.
“I’ve recently been talking to Denver, Stanford and Yale,” he said. “Right now I really like economics and science and I’m looking into culinary a little bit. I like cooking.”
The left-hander already has a couple of signature dishes he likes making.
“I made a big thing of macaroni and cheese from scratch and filet mignon and I like cooking salmon, as well,” Rose said.
