OnPoint Hoops has what it takes to win
OnPoint Hoops was impressive Friday night and their roster shows they have a team that is talented enough to win the 2017 Prep Hoops Finale.
OnPoint Hoops has assembled a group of talented players who fit together to become a real threat in this tournament.
Led by UTSA verbal commit Adokiye Iyaye who is a top notch two-way player. Iyaye has a smooth jumper and he can defend with the best of them. He is their best player but he doesn’t dominate the ball which creates more opportunities for his teammates. Iyaye lets the game come to him but he can get hot and put up big numbers quickly if you fall asleep on him.
Iyaye is the head of the snake for OnPoint defensively as he might be the best defender in the state. Guarding the oppositions best is what Iyaye lives for which gives OnPoint a shot in any game.
2018 Chris Braggs is an old school player who can dominate a game offensively from the from 18′ feet and in. Braggs isn’t much of a three point shooter but the midrange area is his house and he welcomes any defender to try and stop him. He is a combo forward can put up points quickly.
Defensively, no one takes more charges than Braggs which shows his toughness and willingness to sacrifice his body for the team.
Blake Owens is a great fit with Braggs down low because he is the total opposite. Owens is a long 6’7 forward who can run like a deer and brings a great motor. His offensive skills are improving and he is getting more comfortable taking the 15′ ft jumper as well.
The 2018 forward brings a lot of defensive versatility because he has quick feet and he can protect the rim with the best of them. If Owens can stick to his bread and butter which is being a dominant energy player, he can help OnPoint get to another level.
Brock Schreiner brings a toughness and IQ to the team which is invaluable. Surrounded by talent, Schreiner understands his role and finds ways to make plays.
He potentially had the best play of Friday night when he received a pitch ahead pass and without looking he quickly flipped it over his head to Blake Owens for the finish. That play alone showed Schreiner knows his surroundings and he knows how to play the game.
Dalton Vinson is another forward who can score on the block but he is also improving as a scorer on the perimeter. Vinson brings a physicality to the team that is needed when playing great competition.
The 2018 forward from Hennessey is one of the better big men in his class and his ability offensively is one of the reasons why.
OnPoint has a plethora of solid role players who mold their game around these key contributors to become on the more intriguing teams in the Prep Hoops Finale. If they can bring their A game, OnPoint has a chance to being on Sunday for a chance at the championship.
