Former Perry County Central Star, Ohio State Commit Chooses NC State
In June (after the departure of long-time Buckeye head Coach Thad Matta), former Perry County Central star guard Braxton Beverly announced that he would back-off from his commitment to Ohio State and look for another destination to begin his college career. Today Beverly announced that the desitination would be in Raleigh, North Carolina with the Wolfpack of North Carolina State.
Braxton Beverly spent the last two season as a post-graduate player at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia. During that time the Tigers went 90-3, with Beverly averaging just over 20 points and 6 assists per game. Also in his time at Hargrave, he helped lead them to a national prep title and a final four berth. He also holds the Hargrave record for most points scored in a game with 70.
At the end of Hargrave’s season, it was announced that head coach A.W. Hamilton would be leaving the program to take an assistant coaching position with North Carolina State alongside another former Hargrave head coach in Kevin Keatts. Keatts is in his first season at NC State after a succesful tenure at UNC-Wilmington. Beverly is sure to enjoy being back with his former head coach to add some familiarity to his environment.
At Perry County Central, Beverly helped lead the Commodores to a 23-11 record and a trip to the regional final his senior season. He averaged 24.6 points per game while shooting almost 50% from the field. He had originally committed to Miami (Ohio) before choosing to attend Hargrave.
