Day 1 Stock Risers from Prep Hoops Finale 2017
The first night of the 2017 Prep Hoops Finale was filled with exciting action and competitive games. Here are a few players who performed well on Day 1.
Camryn Dennis 2019 Team Griffin 16U
Dennis is a smooth lefty with a high level of ability. Dennis showed his explosiveness in transition and he also displayed his potential as a shooter as well. With significant players missing from Team Griffin’s roster, Dennis stepped up as the lead guard and he gave his team an opportunity to win down the stretch versus OK Power 17 Elite.
Stephon Hall 2018 OK Power Elite 17U
Hall got loose Friday night with an improving jumper. Hall hit spot up threes and he also hit some pull up jumpers as well. Hall plays at his own pace which was apparent Day 1 as he patiently surveyed the defense then attacked with precision.
Mo Wilson 2018 OK Power Elite 17U
Wilson is known for his playmaking and versatility but he is just as talented at protecting the rim on defense. He was the leader of the OK Power defense which was active and unforgiving in the paint. Many players would drive with the thought of finishing but Wilson’s length would quickly disrupt any opportunity at the rim.
Chris Braggs 2018 OnPoint Hoops
Braggs is one of the better two way players in the class of 2017. He showed his ability to score and defend Friday night. Braggs was a mismatch all game long due to his automatic mid-range jumper and his craftiness in the paint. Defensively, Braggs showed he can guard different positions and he took a few charges on top of that.
Derrick Walter Jr. 2018 Primetime Red
Walter is the prototype wing who can shoot with consistency and defend different positions. He showed that ability Friday night vs OK Power Elite. At 6’5, Walter Jr. hit big shots which led Primetime Red to a comeback. Coaches from D2’s were salivating over the possibility of earning his services.
Shemar Smith 2019 Ok Power Elite 16U
Shemar Smith is one of the most athletic players in the state no matter the class. Smith has had a great summer using his elite motor and improving skill. Friday night allowed Smith to showcase his elite athleticism. He is an immense talent who coaches should keep an eye on this weekend.
Adokiye Iyaye 2018 OnPoint Hoops
Iyaye is a two way player who has a consistent game. He got hot in the second half and hit four threes which opened the game up. Iyaye put on a show throughout the game and showed why he is a Division 1 prospect.
Jalen Crutchfield 2018 Ok Power Elite 17U
Crutchfield had an impressive first day scoring from distance and in transition. Crutchfield is one of the top shooters in the 2017 class. That was obvious on Day 1 as he hit open shots at a consistent clip.
He has a good combination of size and skill which was tough to account for the opponent. When Crutchfield gets his seat set there is not much you can do after that.
