Big Shots Charlotte: Standout Point Guards
Big Shots Charlotte was loaded with elite AAU teams with several standout point guards.
Elbert Ellis – 6’2” PG – Team Felton – 17U
Showed an uncanny ability to score the ball at a high level. Really hard to defend with his combination of speed, quickness, leaping ability and body control. Loves to attack the rim and does a solid job finding people on kick outs. Has the potential to develop long term into a great scoring guard with passing ability at the next level.
Chase Forte – 6’0” PG – Garner Road – 16U
Really quick and bouncy guard. Came off the bench in the matchups I saw him and immediately provided a scoring punch, defensive intensity and got into the paint consistently. Even when he isn’t scoring or dishing the ball well, his motor alone is contagious and the team plays harder with him on the floor.
Shawn Walker Jr. – 6’5” PG – Garner Road – 16U
A true floor general. Has great size at the point guard position and can slide over to the combo guard slot as well as the 3. Very unselfish, makes the smart plays and is knocking down open jumpers at a high rate. Displayed above average court vision, defensive awareness and sneaky athleticism on several plays. Sleeper prospect that could be bound for a breakout junior season.
Caleb Burgess – 6’2” PG – Big Shots Elite – 16U
Underrated could be an understatement. Burgess possesses great pace, understanding of the game and a knack for making the right plays time and time again. Was dominant in his matchup against Team Loaded. Got to the rim at will, spread the wealth at a high level and did a great job keeping opposing guards in front of him defensively. Knocked down shots in transition and executed well in pick and roll. His recruitment should trend up sooner than later.
Kody Shubert – 6’0” PG – Team Charlotte – 17U
A jet quick point guard with underrated passing ability. Sees plays before they happen. Teams had a ton of trouble keeping up with him all tournament long. Drops off quick passes in the paint to his big men. Uses look-away passes and hesitations extremely well. Showed the ability to score the ball at a high level against big athletic guards. Despite his slender frame, he’s a definite D1 prospect that will have the potential to contribute immediately.
