SPSL Underclassmen All-Star Game Standouts
The St. Paul’s Summer League came to a close last night. In between the semifinal and championship game, there was an underclassmen all-star game that featured the top incoming freshmen, sophomores, and juniors throughout the league.

The white team came out on top 78-74. There was a lack of energy throughout most of the first half, but the play started to pick up as the game winded down. Here are some players who stood out:
Ziggy Reid | St. Paul’s | 2018
Reid was not only a standout during this all-star game, he was one of the most consistent players throughout the league. In this underclassmen showcase, continued his consistent scoring by leading all players with 15 points. The 6’4 wing scored on all three levels from a variety of ways and showed good energy throughout.
Che Evans | Dulaney | 2020
Evans is a dynamic scorer, so an all-star game is the perfect stage to display his ability to shoot the basketball. The 6’6 wing didn’t do much driving to the basket, but had plenty of pull-up jumpers off the dribble. Evans finished with 14 points for the game.
Ike Cornish | Dulaney | 2021
Throughout summer league, Cornish put people on notice that he will be a freshman to watch this upcoming season. At 6’4 with great length and still more room to grow, Cornish can handle the ball well and knock down shots from mid-range and beyond the arc on a consistent basis. Because of his size, he rebounded the ball well and was able to spark a fastbreak that often times finished with him making a smart pass to a teammate for an easy bucket. Cornish finished with eight points of his own.
Jalen Rucker | Gilman | 2019
In a game that lacked serious energy from the get-go, Rucker stood out with his willingness to compete on both ends. Offensively he was calling for isolations to take his man off the dribble and defensively he was pressing up on his man as soon as they crossed halfcourt. He struggled to find his shot, finishing with six points on the night, but he made the game much better when he was on the floor.
Chase Drew | Gilman | 2019
Drew is another player that can shine during these type of games because of his athletic ability. That was on full display when he caught the ball on a fast break and rose over top the opposing defender for a poster dunk that made the gym ignite. During all-star games, people want to see high-flying athletic plays and that’s exactly what Drew brings to the table.
Will Thomas | Mt. Carmel | 2019
Thomas is one of the more skilled wings in the 2019 class. He had a solid showing in the game last night finishing with 14 points. One underrated part of his game is his passing ability. Between Drew and Evans, Thomas had a few nice passes on the fastbreak to get them each opportunities for dunks.
