Recruiting Report: Caidon Owen (2018)
Glenelg Country had a solid season in 2016-17 finishing with a 19-10 overall record. They lost some key pieces to graduation this year, so in 2017-18, new players will be expected to shoulder the load. 2018 wing Caidon Owen will step into the role of being the team’s leader and go-to scorer.
The 6’4 lefty can knock down shots from deep on a consistent basis. His shot will look unorthodox if it’s your first time seeing it, but Owen still gets good rotation on the ball and can hit at an efficient rate. While 6’4 doesn’t scream power forward on paper, Owen is a long-armed player and considering his ability to stretch the floor, he can be a mismatch for bigger match ups. His length also helps him contest shots on defense and be a presence in the rebounding department.
Being that Owen will be counted on for much of the offensive production next season, he has a specific focus this summer as he trains and played with Maryland 3D on the AAU Circuit.
“Mostly one-on-one moves,” Owen told PrepHoops. “I know I can shoot, but I want to be able to take people off the dribble and break people down so we’re able to run the offense through me.”
Confidence is key in any sport. Owen isn’t the type of player who is overconfident, but he doesn’t doubt that he can fulfill the role of “being the guy.”
Owen’s recruitment has picked up recently as he garners interest from Division II Assumption College and Division III schools such as Susquehanna, Albright, and Hood. Staying close to home has become more of a priority to Owen when evaluating the schools interested in him. Allowing his family to see him play consistently holds importance to him.
Owen told PrepHoops that he has a 3.6 cumulative GPA at the moment and he intends on majoring in something having to do with electronics in college.
