Recruit Report 2018: Josiah Marable
Josiah Marable, 6’8″, C/PF, 2018, Wilson HS Tigers, Washington, DC.
Grassroots/AAU Team: DC Premier 16 & U.
This past season Josiah displayed flashes for Wilson HS, but he needed better conditioning. Despite his very large Josiah was very mobile and skilled. However, in the short span since the season ended Josiah has shed 25 plus pounds and is a much improved player. He is slated to start this season and he is a dominating force in the paint. It is nearly impossible to move him from his established post position.
We recently saw Josiah at the Maryland Team Games and were impressed with his high activity in the post. Josiah says, ” I have been working out very hard 6 days a week and monitoring my diet with the help of my parents, who are my role models. This summer I will continue my weight and running programs with my Trainer Tee Johnson who also helps with my basketball drills. I can maintain my aggressiveness for longer periods, but I am far from satisfied with my overall conditioning and basketball skills. This summer we are working on my 3 point shot so we can create spacing, my post moves and all the overall skills.I will continue to work hard the rest of my career.”
Josiah was ripping rebounds away from opponents on both sides of the ball. He attacks the glass hard and when he gets the chance will throw down a power dunk. Additionally, Josiah made some nice post moves and follow ups. He adds,” My strengths are rebounding and being a rim protector. I would describe my position as a post 4. I currently have post moves, such as jump hook, reverse spins, drop step, and shimmy face ups.” If Josiah continues his development and with his potential, he could develop into a D1 player. This will be a big year for him.
Currently Josiah GPA is close to a 3.0 and says.” In college I am interested in Business and Forensic Science as my major. After this coming season, I am keeping my options for college, and prep school might be an option. Coach Hernandez preaches the importance of academics and monitors us closely.” HC Hernandez adds,”We are very proud of Josiah on and off the court at Wilson and he will play a big role for us this year. he is just begging to scratch the surface as a basketball player.”
Finally, Josiah says, “We have major goals at Wilson this coming season. We want to repeat as the DCIAA Champions and win the Washington, DC State tournament.” Last season in the DC State Tournament semifinals Wilson battled #8 in the nation ferociously, but just fell short at Georgetown University.
This spring and summer Josiah is playing for DC Premier on the UAA Grassroots circuit. Wilson teammate, Ayidne Hikim is the PG for DC Premier & we will be writing an update for Ayinde this coming week. “Josiah’s DC Premier Coach Matthew Parker has had a significant role in Josiah’s progress this spring”, says Josiah’s father Dwight Marable.
Prep Hoops will be providing in depth coverage for Wilson this coming season and their college recruits. Please read our recent article on Wilson HS overview for 2017/18.
