Wilson HS is primed & ready for 2017/18, Team Breakdown.
Wilson HS, Tigers, Washington, DC, DCIAA.
Head Coach: Angelo Herandez. Interestingly Coach Hernandez graduated high school from Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, PA. Overbrook is the Almer Mata of Wilt Chamberlain who some say is the NBA’s greatest player of all time. Coach Hernandez graduated from North Carolina A& T where he played basketball and graduated.
Last season Wilson finished the season ranked # 3 in the Washington, DC DMV by the Washington Post compiling a record of 29-4 after a 9-16 record in 2015/16. Head Coach Angelo Hernandez led the turnaround in just his 3rd season at Wilson. Interestingly Coach Hernandez graduated high school from Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, PA. Overbrook is the Almer Mata of Wilt Chamberlain who some say is the NBA’s greatest player of all time. The only key loss for the Tigers this coming season will be workhorse forward Isaiah Jennings who was named to our 5th Team All DMV I-495 Team this spring and will play at Corning Community College in New York next season.
This coming season Wilson has the talent on paper to be in the conversation for the top ranked team in Washington, DC DMV and possibly ranked in the high school national polls. However, Coach Hernandez says,”This off-season is key to improving what Wilson already stands for, which is hard work always beats talent when talent does not work hard. We look to improve off of last season and continue to bring college coaches to the NW side of DC where Wilson is known primarily for its academics.If everyone buys into what we are trying to accomplish from the beginning we will have a successful season.”
Wilson Tigers key returnees:
Carlos Dunn, 5’10”, CG, 2019.
Carlos is a sharpshooter who can knock downs 3s and score from all 3 levels. He can handle the ball and apply heavy ball pressure.
Ayinde Hikim, 5’11”, PG, 2018.
Ayinde was awarded to our 3rd Team All I 495 DMV team this past spring. He is very explosive and an excellent floor general who gets in the paint. In addition he is a very disruptive defender.
Ricardo Lindo, 6’7″, WF/WG, 2018.
Ricardo was awarded 4th Team All I-495 DMV Team this past spring by Prep Hoops. He is very athletic with a great wingspan, who is an excellent defender and can score when he wants from all 3 levels.
Josiah Marable, 6’7″, C, 2018.
Josiah is a wide body who who has worked very hard and shed weight. He is a force in the paint, can score in the box, rebound and rim protect. he will be the key down low post player for Wilson this season on both ends.
Key newcomers include:
Jay Heath, 6’3″, CG, 2019.
Jay is a very big stock riser this spring and is very strong and tough. He can get to the rim in traffic and finish or dish. jay can shoot from deep and is a very good and aggressive defender.
Dimingus Stevens, 6’4″, WG, 2020.
Dimingus is a big time talent and can score in bunches. His 3 point shot is excellent and he can attack the rim finishing with a powerful dunk. Dimingus has has huge upside and he could breakout this season as a sophomore.
