Prospect Spotlight: Ziggy Reid (2019)
St. Paul’s had a special season in 2016-17 as they capped it off by winning the MIAA B Conference championship. As usual for championship teams, the next season there will be a lot of pressure on them to protect their title. While the Crusaders lost two key seniors to graduation, they have a number of key returners that will look to capitalize now that they have that experience under their belt.
2019 wing Ziggy Reid is one of those key returners. Reid averaged 13 points, six rebounds, and two assists during his sophomore campaign. Looking forward to next season, Reid will be the go-to guy when it comes to putting the ball in the basket. The 6’4 wing has developed his offensive repertoire tremendously over the past couple of years.
He can mix it up well in terms of scoring from all three levels. His size makes him effective in finishing around the basket with contact, but where he has really become a weapon is on catch-and-shoot three’s. Another positive in Reid’s abilities is the fact that he can rebound and initiate the fast break himself. In those situations, he does a good job of making the right decision in transition. If it’s an even break match up wise, he’ll likely head right to the basket. But if St. Paul’s has an advantage, he makes the right pass to the open guy.
Reid is still working on improving even more to take his game to another level. “I want to get in good shape,” Reid told PrepHoops. “Lose bad weight, gain muscle. I also want to work my game scoring wise like my pull-up jumpers off the dribble.”
Reid added that his biggest weakness at the moment is his speed. Defensively, he wants to improve on his quickness and ability to stay in front of guys at all positions.
Reid has no offers currently, but Navy has expressed interest. If he stays on this consistent rate of improvement, it won’t be long before a handful of other schools start calling.
What can a college team expect to get with a guy like Reid? “I have great energy both on and off the basketball court,” Reid said. “I’m always communicating, and they’ll get a hard worker.”
