Prospect Spotlight: Terrance Clayton – Murphy (2018)
Terrance Clayton is a 6’2 guard from Bryan Station High School in Lexington, KY. Last season he helped lead Station to a 13-13 record while averaging 13.5 points and 3 rebounds per game as a junior. During the first half of the season, he averaged 20.3 points per game. “My main goal during my junior season was to win a district championship,” said Clayton. “At the end of the season my goal was to earn a spot on the All-District Team. I received honorable mention. Not achieving those two goals have really motivated me this off-season.”
Clayton is a slashing guard. He mainly plays the shooting guard position. “My role on the team was to score in anyway I could. My confidence in scoring the ball has always been high. I truly believe that the only person that can get in my way and stop me is me. The majority of my points came from either taking it to the basket or shooting the mid-range jumper.”
This summer, Terrance is playing AAU with Team Vision out of Central Kentucky. “So far it’s been great. I can’t wait to get back at it in July!” This summer he’s also looking at improving his game. “The main thing I need to improve on is my body. I have the natural strength to go up against anybody, but coaches want their players to look the part as well. I also know that getting stronger will help my game, overall. Individual development (skills training) is also what I’m working on.”
Clayton’s goals next season are the same as last. Win the district, go to the regional, and have a shot to play in the state tournament. “I would also like to have my name included on the All-State Team. But at the end of it all, I just want to improve on my game every day so that I have the opportunity to play at the next level.” Terrance said that right now he is looking for a college that fits him academically and athletically. “I don’t care about the division. I, II, III. Whichever one fits me the best is the college I would like to attend. I would like to eventually play overseas, so a college that can help me achieve that goal would be great. I would honestly be beyond grateful for any college that shows interest in me, but would follow the right path for myself.”
Terrance currently has no official offers but has a ton of interest from all levels. At the D-1 level, such schools like WKU, Central Michigan, Toledo and Youngstown State have reached out to him. At the D-2 level, Arkansas State, Central Missouri, Queens University (NC), and Charleston are a few that have reached out. He also has a number of NAIA schools showing interest – including in-state powerhouses Pikeville and Georgetown College.
Once again, you can find Clayton this July playing with Team Vision.
