Prospect Spotlight: Malik McCormick (2019)
Malik McCormick, a class of 2019 guard at Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in Baltimore, Maryland, was a standout for Crusader Nation at the DC Metro Showcase. He isn’t the tallest guard, but he has length and athleticism. One thing we really liked about McCormick is that he lays it all on the line, and plays as hard as he can at all times.
“I’m a all around player defensive stopper, score inside and out, pass first guard, athletic,” McCormick explained. “One thing I do on the court that most people probably not see is my technique on how I find ways to stop ball handlers.”
“Pest” is a good word to describe McCormick on defense. The ultra quick guard is a nightmare for opposing ball handlers, and is disruptive in the passing lanes with his length. McCormick can fill it up from long range, but is also a crafty finisher around the basket.

“The most improved aspect in my game in the last 12 months I would say my ability to finish at the basket, and stop other guards from scoring the basketball,” McCormick said. “The main part of my game I have to work on next are floaters & mid range jumper.”
No one is recruiting McCormick at the moment, but that could change soon. He’s a solid student, and has over a 3.0 GPA. He says he had a 3.6 last quarter. What can a college program expect from McCormick at the next level?
“I honestly think I can bring high energy on and off the court, defensive plays, hustle plays, offensive plays, loyalty, commitment, and respect for not just myself but to the organization,my teammates, and my coach.”
