DC Metro Showcase Standouts
BOYDS, MD — The annual DC Metro Showcase played host to dozens of teams for some high level competition, and Prep Hoops was in the gym on Saturday checking out the action. Here are a just a few standouts from the event.
CHACE DAVIS | 6’2 G | ST. ANDREW’S ’21/POTOMAC LIONS
Davis continues to show that he is ready to contribute immediately this season. The rising freshman had two breakaway dunks in a win over the Hagerstown Gaels. Davis was very productive, and played with commendable energy on both ends of the floor.
RESHAUD GARRISON | 6’0 G | WOODLAWN ’18/BUMP CITY
Garrison was a standout for Bump City in a hard fought contest vs. Crusader Nation. The skilled lead guard sees the floor well, and made some excellent passes to set up his teammates. Garrison was efficient offensively, and showcased a quick release on his smooth perimeter jump shot.
DREW GREEN | 6’3 G | LAKE CLIFTON ’19/CECIL KIRK
One of the best athletes we saw on Saturday had to be Drew Green. The 6’3 guard had some big time dunks in a triple overtime win over York Ballers. Green was very aggressive off the bounce, and displayed a quick first step.
MALIK MCCORMICK | 6’0 G | DUNBAR ’19/CRUSADER NATION
“Microwave” is a good nickname for McCormick. In an overtime win over Bump City, he hit 5 of 11 from deep on his way to a game-high 26 points. Not only did he shoot the ball well from the perimeter, but McCormick also exhibited some craftiness off the dribble. He finished well in traffic, and seeks contact in the lane.
JUSTIN NWOSU | 6’5 F | ST. ANDREW’S ’18/POTOMAC LIONS
One opponent likened Nwosu’s physical appearance to that of a linebacker, and his assessment isn’t inaccurate. The sturdily built 6’5 forward is best offensively 15-feet and in, but one thing we noticed was how well he passes the ball. Nwosu is not only a good outlet passer, but a productive rebounder.
SEAN RILEY | 6’3 G | BULL CITY PREP ’17/METROBALL DC
Riley was perhaps the most impressive athlete at the event. The 6’3 guard is a capable shot maker, and that helps open up the lane for his explosive drives to the rim. Riley is also very unselfish, and looks to get his teammates involved.
COLLIN SCHLEE | 6’2 G | OAKDALE ’19/CBSA HOYAS
Schlee shoots it well off the dribble, and from the catch. He has good size, skill, and makes intelligent plays with the basketball. We liked that he plays with good pace, and plays hard. Schlee was an integral factor for his team during their run to the 16U Championship.
DELRICO SIMMS | 6’0 G | NATIONAL COLLEGIATE/METROBALL DC
Simms put on a shooting clinic in a big win over the Potomac Lions. He hit four threes in the first half. Simms knows where to be off the ball, and doesn’t need much room to get his shot off.
KAMARI WILLIAMS | 6’6 G | ST. ANDREW’S ’19/POTOMAC LIONS
Williams is blossoming into a high level wing prospect. He plays hard all the time, shoots it very well, and is active defensively. Williams finds multiple ways to impact games, and demonstrates a good understanding of the game.
GABRIEL WUOR | 6’10 C | TRINITY INTERNATIONAL (NV) ’20/EDGE BULLDOGS
This was our first opportunity to see Wuor, and we were impressed with the command he has of his body at this stage. The long-limbed big man ran the floor well, and displayed nice touch around the basket. His hands are improving, but he will clearly need to add strength in order to play at the next level.
