Prospect Spotlight: Gabe McGlothan
Gabe McGlothan, the 6-foot seven-inch power forward out of Basha, has received offers from 10 different schools. UC Davis, Grand Canyon University, and Idaho State being three of them, he has also gotten interest letters from Arizona State University as well as Washington State, but decided to sign with West Point Naval Academy.
As a Senior McGlothan averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds a game.
“Spending all the time with the team was the best, they are family to me,” McGlothan said looking back at his Senior year. He added “and the ending just put the cherry on top of it all, winning a state championship with my family.”
Being that West Point is a military school there are a couple of commitments that must be made on top of playing basketball. McGlothan said that he will be spending one year at the army prep school prior to attending the academy. Also, once he is done with his four years of basketball he will be serving five years for the United States Army.
McGlothan said “I never really considered it [the military] when I got the offer it opened my eyes to it… I chose West Point because it spoke to the kind of person I wanted to be. Set up with more than just basketball.”
McGlothan hopes to add to his game while at West Point and said that he would like to help his team reach the Division 1 NCAA tournament, a task that no other West Point ball team has done before.
