Prospect Spotlight: Carter Baughman (2019)
Carter Baughman is a 5’11 point guard from Mercer County High School in Harrodsburg, KY. Last season he helped the Titans go 25-8, finishing just short of a regional championship. Prep Hoops Kentucky caught up with Baughman to talk hoops and see how his summer is going thus far.
Carter finished last season shooting 45% from the field and 40% from 3-point range. But his high field goal percentage isn’t all he brings to the table. “I think if you ask anyone they will tell you I am a pass first point guard, always looking to get others involved,” said Baughman (in describing his game). “I am very fast with the ball and I have good court vision.”
This summer Carter is playing with M.A.T.T.S Mustangs AAU program. They are coached by John Adkins and Steve Quattrocchi. “(This summer) I have been working on getting stronger, more explosive, and more athletic as well as working on my 3-point shot.” Baughman hopes the work that he puts in during this time will prepare him for his goals next season. “I would like to win our district for the 4th year in a row and hopefully get a chance at winning the 12 region and compete at the state tournament at Rupp. Individually, I would like to try and make the All-District and Region Team.”
We asked Carter about what he is looking for in a potential school in college after his high school career comes to an end: “My dream would be to play for the most competitive college I can to become the best player I can become, as well as get a good education.” As of now, Baughman has yet to receive his first offer, but has been getting some e-mails, letters, and texts from college coaches showing interest in him. “A few schools that have reached out to me include Liberty, Lincoln Memorial, Central Michigan, and LaFayette.”
