The class of 2018 is a solid one for the Bluegrass State. With our release of the latest version of the 2018 Prospect Rankings, we look to break down each position. Prep Hoops Kentucky breaks down the top shooting guards here:
Christian Fredrick, Covington Catholic (6’4, Indiana Elite AAU)
Fredrick, who took over the #1 overall player spot in our most updated 2018 rankings, has quickly become one of the nation’s top shooters, showcasing a sniper like ability playing with Indiana Elite this summer. He ranks near the top among Adidas Gauntlet prospects in 3-pt field goal percentage, shooting over 51%. As junior at Covington Catholic, Fredrick averaged 19.7 ppg, shooting over 50% from the field. He also helped lead the Colonels to a 29-6 overall record. He currently holds offers from Iowa, Nebraska, Penn State, Xavier, Ball State, NKU, Wright State, Miami (OH), and Winthrop. He recently visited Michigan.
Trevon Faulkner, Mercer County (6’4, 22 Vision AAU)
Faulkner had a very solid junior campaign with the Titans, averaging 24.2 points and 12 rebounds per game. He also helped Mercer County advance to the 12th Region championship, falling just short to Pulaski County. Faulkner has proved that he is capable of playing the two-guard position at the next level while running with Adidas Gauntlet Gold program 22 Vision. Some college coaches wondered if he was an undersized three-man. Those worries have seemed to fall off. Faulkner currently holds offers from such schools as Middle Tennessee and Northern Kentucky.
Steven Fitzgerald, Pulaski County (6’3, Louisville Magic AAU)
Fitzgerald helped lead Pulaski County to its first Kentucky state tournament birth since 1986 this past season. He averaged 25.1 points per game while shooting over 55% from the field. Fitzgerald’s size and athleticism makes him stand out among 12th region players. Playing with Louisville Magic helps prove his worth to college recruiters. Fitzgerald has interest from a number of D-1 programs.
Skylar Potter, Warren Central (6’3)
Potter averaged 20 points per game last season for Warren Central and holds the school record for most three’s in a game (10). He rebounds the ball well for a guard and has a scholarship offer to Lipscomb University in Nashville. Potter has played AAU this summer with WKY Elite and the Louisville Prospects.
Trey Hill, Pleasure Ridge Park (6’3, Team Vision AAU)
Hill got a number of D-1 offers before the high school season started, including EKU, VCU, and Furman. He averaged 15 points per game for PRP last season as a junior. We believe Hill is capable of playing at the combo guard position at the next level.
KEEP AN EYE ON:
Wyatt Battaille, Pikeville (6’5, Hoop Dreams)
Averaged 20 a game last season as a junior at Pikeville High School. He has one scholarship offer from Mercer. Wyatt is playing with Hoop Dreams, look for him to garner more interest before his senior year concludes.
Justin Mitchell, Henry Clay (6’4)
14.5 points per game last season as a junior. Mitchell has garnered some interest from a number of college programs at all levels. Look for him to really step it up during his senior season.
