Team Griffin 15U Nike EYB Indy Evaluations
The Team Griffin 15U team had a solid weekend in Indy. Though their record was not what they had hoped for at 1-2, they lost both games by single digits with each of them coming down to the wire. Several players broke out for Team Griffin having positive first experiences on the national circuit. Get a look at each player with an evaluation below.
Lamont Evans IV 2020 Point Guard
Evans has a good weekend for Team Griffin with a breakout game on Friday night of 21 points. He has some swagger to his game that exudes confidence. Evans makes the smart high IQ basketball plays on the floor. He played at the two for most of the weekend for Team Griffin, but still had the ball in his hands quite a bit. Evans can take his game to another level as he is more consistent. Evans looked like a top ten Oklahoma 2020 prospect this weekend.
Marques Warrior 2020 Point Guard
Warrior is a creator at the Point Guard spot with the ball in his hands. The jumper for Warrior was inconsistent this weekend, but he did a solid job of adjusting and taking the ball strong to the rim. He has a good floater game that he also used to score. Warrior can take his game to another level by working on his court vision, decreasing turnovers and increasing consistency from the three-point line. Warrior has some upside to his game if he can continue to develop.
Septic Reese 2020 Point Guard
Reese came off the bench for Team Griffin providing a scoring punch for them. He is coming off an ankle injury, which slowed him up a little. However, it was evident he can score the basketball effectively. Reese is still developing as a player. Areas of improvement for Reese are on ball defense and limiting turnovers. Reese will be a player to keep a close eye on over this summer to see not only his development, but bounce back from his injury that he is still working back from.
Dayton Holman 2020 Wing
Holman was impressive this weekend in Indy for Team Griffin. He had a lot of bright spots and did tons of things that were positive. Holman stands at 6’4 with a good handle of the basketball, which comes from playing Point Guard for a lot of his basketball life. He drove the ball strong to the basket finishing through contact. Size and strength are a huge plus for Holman. Areas Holman should look to work on are his three-point shot and to be more aggressive. He has the highest potential prospect wise on the Team Griffin 15U team.
Jordan Ford 2020 Guard
Ford is a 6’1 strong Guard who gave Team Griffin 15U some good minutes off the bench. Ford excels at two sports football and basketball. It was clear the work Ford has put in the weight room has helped him on the court. He used his strength to finish strong in the paint. Ford needs to expand his offensive game adding a more reliable jump shot to make defenders respect his shot. He is a very gifted athlete.
Jacobi Johnson 2020 Forward
Johnson grew up this weekend in Indy on the Nike EYB Circuit with Team Griffin. He was a little timid at first and it showed. But by the end of the weekend Johnson shook off the timidness and began to be a key factor for Team Griffin. He battled in the paint for rebounds really well exuding a ton of effort. Johnson must work on his quickness, jumper and learning the game. The effort he gave this weekend was fun to watch.
Christian Cook 2020 Guard
Cook is an intriguing Guard that gave Team Griffin minutes in a starting role at the two guard spot. He scored the ball well for the better part of the weekend. Cook’s strong points are his shot and aggressiveness towards the rim. An area Cook will look to work on is learning how to finish over 6’10-7′ in the Post. Cook also will need to improve defensively to take his game to another level.
Jalen Breath 2021 Post
Breath is a tall 6’8 Post for Team Griffin. He is playing up a grade level at the 15U level for Team Griffin. This weekend Breath came off the bench filling in vital minutes at the Post. He is still adjusting to the national circuit level and learning the game. The potential for Breath with his size to be a good rebounder and defensive stopper around the rim in there if he works hard and develops. The great thing for Breath is he is getting valuable experience at such a young age.
Andrew Lewis 2020 Guard
Lewis was a pleasant surprise on the Team Griffin 15U squad. Seeing him play at the national circuit level for the first time was a treat. He gave great effort on both ends constantly. He stands around 6’2 with some athleticism that helps him to finish in the paint over taller defenders. Lewis did not back down from the challenge of the national circuit, but appeared to welcome it. He needs to improve his ball handling skills and jumper. Lewis showed a lot of positive signs in Indy.
Kendural Jolly 2020 Point Guard
Jolly is extremely undersized at the Point Guard spot, but he plays with a ton of heart and energy on the floor. He was the sixth man off the bench for Team Griffin in Indy. He shot the ball well from three-point land at times this weekend. The energy Jolly brings to the floor is infectious. Jolly should work to improve his court vision and shot selection.
Marcus Graves 2020 Post
Graves started for Team Griffin at the five spot this weekend in Indy. He was undersized immensely at times this weekend against some of the team. He battled hard in the paint for rebounds and did what he could to make it tough on the opposing players to score in the paint. Graves showed a solid jumper at times this weekend. If Graves can make the jumper he displayed more consistent and work on learning the game it will improve his stock.
