Super Team Showcase 15U Standouts: Part 2
Continuing the evaluations from the Super Team Showcase brought to you by DMVElite, let’s take a look at more players who stood out for the 15 U division. You can see part 1 here.
Xavier Lipscomb | 2020| Team Durant
Lipscomb is an old-school, tough-nosed guard who is extremely physical. At 6’2, Lipscomb used his size as he attacks the rim amongst the bigs and finished through contact. His best game came against D.C. Premier where he finished with 11 points with seven of them coming from the charity stripe. The lefty was the floor general for Team Durant and was the clear leader on the floor. He was crucial in the win against Takeover at the end communicating time management amongst his teammates to help put together smart possessions.
Dowar Jioklow | 2020 | D.C. Blue Devils
The Blue Devils, along with Team Durant, looked to be the most dominant team at the showcase. They went 2-0 on the day and won by a combined 58 points. Dowar Jioklow is one that catches your eye immediately considering his size and length at 6’8. The lefty wing finished with a game-high 14 points in the win against the D.C. Thunder and did a great job showcasing his versatility offensively. Jioklow is a dangerous threat in pick-and-pop scenarios on the perimeter and can also get to the rim in isolation situations. Given his length, his presence on defense is obvious. He was the longest player in the gym today, so when he crashed the glass hard, he wasn’t going to come up empty-handed.
Che Evans | 2020 | Team Melo
Evans very much has a score-first mentality as a 6’7 wing. While he can mix it up from all three levels, he shines brightest in transition when his length and athleticism can be witnessed. Evans recorded 14 points in a win against D.C. Thunder and eight points in a win against New World. Evans is always a threat to push the ball after gathering a defensive rebound. He and teammate Justin Lewis were great in getting out on the break and finishing.
Justin Lewis | 2020 | Team Melo
Lewis played a very smart two games for Team Melo. Similar to Evans, Lewis stand 6’7 but offers a different skillset. Lewis was picking defenses apart after catching the ball at the top of the key and awaiting for open teammates off pin-down screens. There were multiple times where his teammates weren’t necessarily open, but Lewis passed where only they could catch it and often times it resulted in a lay up or foul. Defensively, Lewis disrupted plenty of opposing players shots inside and limited them to only one shot by corralling the rebound.
Brandon Murray | 2020 | Team Melo
Murray has a similar build to Draymond Green when he played at Michigan State. He isn’t a guy who looks the part to be a guy who can consistently bring the ball up the floor and manage running the offense, but he does just that. Murray was consistent scoring wise recording 10 points in the win against D.C. Thunder and 12 points against New World. He was good about not forcing the situation when looking to score. Murray was the recipient of a handful of Lewis assists by continuously moving without the ball along the baseline.
Noah Charles | 2020| Mid-Atlantic Select
Despite MAS going 0-2 for the day, Charles had a tremendous showing. After finishing with nine points and five assists in the first game, Charles recorded 17 points, six assists, four rebounds, and three steals in the second. Select loves to run through sets throughly. With that being said, it’s Charles responsibility to choose when is a good time to push in transition and when to pull back for a set. He had a couple of nice outside shots mixed in with smooth floaters after beating his man off the dribble.
James Barry | 2020 | Mid-Atlantic Select
Barry has a mature game when it comes to moving without the ball and shooting after coming off screens. He never seems to rush himself to the point where it effects his shot. The 6’2 guard still has some filling out and growing to do, but the good news is he has great footwork. Barry can also score off the dribble as he displayed in the first game as he finished with a game-high 16 points.
