Super Team Showcase 15U Standouts: Part 1
DMVElite played host to the Super Team Showcase today for local 14U and 15U AAU programs as not only a platform for kids to showcase their skills, but also earn bragging rights over their rival teams.
It’s safe to say that the future of DMV basketball is in good hands after seeing the amount of talent with just a few of the teams who participated. Here, we’ll look at those who separated themselves from the pack.
Ish Leggett | 2020| Team Takeover
Leggett was the most impressive player in Saturday’s slate of games. His impact was felt on both ends of the floor throughout the course of both games. Takeover fell down by double-digits against Team Durant in their first game, but Leggett was able to come up with multiple steals that resulted in buckets to make it a close one. Although Takeover suffered a tough loss, Leggett finished with a game-high 19 points. In their second game, Takeover blasted D.C. Premier 46-26. Leggett finished with 11 points that included an impressive tip-in offensive rebound in traffic. His athleticism is something that can be noticed immediately. With a mixture of great anticipation in the passing lanes, Leggett feasted on lazy passes and made the opponent pay.
Mike Sumner | 2020 | D.C. Premier
D.C. Premier struggled going 0-2 on Saturday losing to Takeover and Team Durant. In their first game against Team Durant, Sumner would’t allow his team to go down without a fight. He scored 18 of his game-high 24 points in the second half relentlessly attacking the rim and finishing with athletic reverse lay ups. While he displayed a variety of ways he can put the ball in the basket, he also had many great passes to set his teammates up to score or be fouled. Sumner is good at using penetration to make the defense collapse and finding windows to deliver the ball to one of his big men to easy opportunities.

Corey Dyches | 2020 | Team Durant
Dyches helped set the pace for what was a big day for Team Durant with wins over Takeover and D.C. Premier. In both games, Team Durant had control for the majority of the match up and Dyches was a big reason why. He recored 16 points in the win over Takeover and 14 over Premier. Both performances led his team in the scoring category. Dyches isn’t the type of player that’s going to settle for a jumpshot. Often times he attacks the basket tucking the ball like a running back in football and barrels his way to the rim for a strong finish. In the open floor, Dyches was solid at finishing through contact or avoiding shot-blockers and still finishing. Team Durant doesn’t have many tall players, so Dyches is counted on to do the dirty work on the glass. He did that by corralling key rebounds in both games to help seal the win.
Tyler Brelsford | 2020 | Team Melo
Brelsford was the floor general for Team Melo who finished 2-0 on the day with wins against New World and D.C. Thunder. In the first game against D.C. Thunder, Brelsford had a slow start finding his stroke, but took over in the second half as he recorded 15 points. He converted on all eight of his free-throws, which were crucial in sealing the 67-62 win. The 6’2 guard doesn’t let anything speed him up. He is great at dictating tempo throughout the game. He finished with six points in the second game, but his ability to find the open man was in full effect. Brelsford has extremely high basketball IQ.
Myles Stute | 2020 | Team Takeover
Stute had trouble finding his shot in the first game against Team Durant, but immediately made his presence felt against Premier. Stute poured in 10 first half points and finished with a game-high 18 points. The 6’6 wing can score from all three levels as he displayed against Premier. In the first five minutes, Stute hit a three, a fastbreak dunk, and a pull-up jumper in transition. When Takeover switched to a 2-3 zone against Premier, Stute was a tough presence in the middle and helped close down possessions by controlling the defensive glass.
