PWP 16U Indy UAA Evaluations
PWP 16U traveled to Indy this weekend to compete on the UA Circuit. They had a good weekend going 2-2 on the national circuit holding their own against some of the top programs across the country. It appears the PWP 16U squad is starting to gel. Prep Hoops gives a scouting report on each player below.
Hunter Staten 2019 Post
Staten did some nice things for the PWP 16U squad in Indy this weekend. He did a good job of rebounding the basketball. Staten also showed off his touch on his jumper this weekend. Standing at 6’9 Staten has a lot of upside especially with the success he is having with things he can still improve upon. Staten is a little stiff and robotic at times in the paint. The biggest things he can work upon to improve himself is improving his footwork and quickness. Staten projects at this point to the Low Major Division I level with the potential he has in the paint.
Kalib Boone 2019 Post
Boone had a good weekend crashing the boards for PWP. He is the taller of his twin brother on the team at 6’9. Boone is a good rim protector that causes opponents to adjust their shot. He is raw in many areas, but the potential is there. Boone has improved offensively. The biggest thing Boone can develop is his offensive game. Tulsa has already extended an offer to Boone. He projects to the Low to Mid Major Division I level.
Bryce Thompson 2020 Shooting Guard
Thompson is a rising 2020 prospect who is turning into a national prospect. After a good freshman season at Booker T. Washington, Thompson is proving himself on the UA Circuit. He is averaging double digits in points per game to lead the team. He is also playing up an age on the 16U Circuit, but you would not know it by his level of play. Thompson has to improve his ball handling skills and work to be more consistent each game out to take his game to another level. There are certainly signs of Thompson having High Major potential. He already holds several offers heading into his sophomore season.
Demarco Jones 2019 Guard
Jones is a combo guard who appears best suited at the 2 guard spot. He is a driver to the basket thriving off the dribble. Jones plays really hard on both ends of the floor. He is sneaky athletic with a high basketball IQ. Jones could improve his three-point shooting to make his offensive game multidimensional. Jones has heard from a couple Low Major Division I programs.
Jett Sternberger 2019 Point Guard
Sternberger is coming off a great season at Kingfisher. So far this spring on the UA Circuit Sternberger is still adjusting. He shot the three-point shot okay over the weekend. Sternberger is known as a Point Guard that can light it up from behind the arc. The biggest thing for Sternberger is learning how to play at the national level effectively. Until you have seen a national circuit it is difficult to understand the high level of play. Sternberger projects to the Division II level.
Keylan Boone 2019 Wing
Boone measures at 6’5 on the Wing with tons of upside. This weekend Boone showed his youth at times, which there are certainly areas he is very raw in. However, there were also many times he made plays that made you see his upside. Boone has really improved his jumper over this past year. This spring Boone has a great opportunity to take his game to another level on the national level while continuing to learn the game.
Seth Hurd 2019 Forward
Hurd played really well for PWP 16U this weekend. He provided them with strong play in the paint on both ends of the floor. Hurd played well making the right plays many times throughout the weekend. He brings toughness, strength and the ability to score with his post moves on the block. Hurd has an offer on the table from Denver and this weekend he showed why. He is a little undersized in the Post. Some areas Hurd could improve to take his game to another level are hitting a mid-range jumper reliably and working on not fouling when contesting shots in the paint. Hurd projects to the Low to Mid Major Division I level.
Jameson Richardson 2020 Forward
Richardson is a young 2020 Forward who is playing up on the PWP 16U national level. He is still adjusting to playing at the national level. It is important to keep in mind that Richardson plays at a small school in Oklahoma at Mangum. Richardson looked a little timid, but with more time on the circuit that will fade. This weekend in Indy Richardson showed off his smooth jump shot from the Wing. He certainly has some upside to his game. Richardson should work on his foot speed to help him defensively at the national level. He has received Division I looks early as a 2020 prospect, but has no offers on the table yet. Richardson’s college level is unknown this early, but all projections point to the Division I level.
Micah Thomas 2019 Point Guard
Thomas was really tough and consistent this weekend for PWP 16U squad in Indy. He displayed his good handle and control, which makes the PWP 16U team go with him at the Point. With the ball in his hands Thomas is quick and shifty. Size hurts Thomas at 5’10. The biggest things Thomas has to work on to improve are being consistent on both ends and locking in defensively at all times. Thomas has been a key starter for PWP 16U this year look for that to continue. He is getting Low Major Division I looks.
Collin Cooper 2019 Guard
Cooper is an intriguing Guard out of Arkansas. He has smoothness to his game on the offensive end. Cooper brought a solid handle of the basketball at 6’1 in the Combo Guard spot. He could improve the consistency of the three-point shot to improve his game. Cooper is a prospect to keep an eye on his development over this summer.
