Prospect Spotlight: Vinson Sigmon (2019)
Canton’s 5-foot-8 point guard Vinson Sigmon is fresh off a big-time sophomore season with the Chiefs, and now is turning heads on the 16U circuit with one of Michigan’s best grassroots teams.
Sigmon is an athletic guard, who is capable of playing either point or shooting guard. He defined his playing style in detail to PHMI.
“As a point guard I like to get up and down, and I’m really good in transition, and I can knock down open shots. I’m really bouncy off the first step and I’m very athletic, and I can recognize mismatches on the floor,” said Sigmon.
“I need to work on my footwork a little bit more, and work on being more of a true point guard.”
This past season at Canton, Sigmon averaged 14 points per game, and says his primary role was to be the team’s defensive stopper.
“I tried to play with intensity, and I shot the ball a lot from the 3-point line. And I usually guarded the other team’s best offensive player; no matter how big he was, 5’5 or 6’5.”
Now, he’s turned his attention towards his role with Greenwood Elite 16U, which is to defend at a high level, and be solid on both sides of the ball.
“For that team I come of the bench as the backup point guard. We have a lot of weapons and I like how we play, and they just push us to be better on and off the court. And I try to be an offensive threat and a defensive threat,” he said.
As he heads into his 16U summer, which will include three July live periods, Sigmon says he’ll embrace any recruitment that might come his way.
“I’m not sure who might be recruiting me, my coaches haven’t notified me about it, but I’m looking forward to being recruited by any college,” said Sigmon. “Any college that’s interested, I would love to be recruited by them.”
