Intro: Trey James (2021)
Trey James is coming off a huge weekend that saw the 6’10 8th grader from Sheldon Clark be invited to John Lucas’ camps later this summer. A member of Team Manimal, James is only one of three players ever to be invited to the camp from Kentucky. “Team Manimal has provided me with opportunities to gain exposure and play against teams from across the country,” said James, talking about his AAU experience thus far. “We have been very competitive and won the Hoop Seen Atlanta Jam. I averaged 8 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 blocks per game.”
James said he also valued the growth he experienced getting to play on Sheldon Clark’s varsity team as an 8th grader. “This year allowed me to gain experience playing against older competition. It helped me gain confidence in going against players who have more varsity experience. I definitely believe it has prepared me to be a leader and contributor among my teammates.” James played in 31 games, averaging 2.6 points and 5 rebounds per game.
Not looking to let recent success get in the way of improving his game, James said that he works out at least 6 days a week on ball handling, post moves, and weightlifting. “I believe I’ve improved offensively and defensively as well as improved my body and strength. ” James admitted that he would like to really focus on continuing his growth in the post and improving his post offense.
Leaving us with his goals going into his freshman year, James said that he would like to help Sheldon Clark win the 57th District and 15th Region titles. “This year will make 35 years since the last time Sheldon Clark made it to the ‘Sweet 16’, and I would like to help lead my team to Rupp!”
